Direct Sales Incentives - Fall 2020 (9/17 - 11/4)

That is absolute bs and I’d rescind or ask to escalate to a manager. He is lying to you. 2 members have two use years????

That is what he told me yesterday. Now, today he changed it up and said I can't call and bank them. I have to use them in 10 days.

They cancelled the DocuSign contract before I had a chance to sign. I saw the original email for the contract come through as I was pulling out of my driveway. 2 hours later when I got home there was a second DocuSign email that said the envelope was cancelled. because it needed to be rewritten. I can't access that original.

I just called and they did bank them. I'm not going to get too excited since I am sure there is a way Disney can undo that since the contract isn't signed yet. I don't even HAVE a contract to sign yet.

I guess they are waiting for my email expressing that I would like to be #26 of 300,000 members with 2 use years.

Surely that will qualify me for the ice cream???

Did they charge you prorated dues for the 2019 UY????
You never pay dues on prior year points. The prorated dues would be for current year (2020) points.

I'd just call Member Services, they're the ones that do it anyway, not the guides.

Unless something else chnages on the terms, etc, necessitating that your contract is rewritten, you're good on the points staying banked.

I can't believe there are only 25 members with different use years! But I suppose they want these explanation in writing so that there is no chance later of someone complaining for having two member accounts and the hassle involved in that.

Most certainly you should get the free ice cream once they reopen! These points are expensive, I plan to get mine even if I have to lay siege to SSR. Hopefully you get that contract soon!

Just when I think I have this all figured out, I get myself all confused and realize I don't understand it all perfectly. I thought the sales pitch that you could get "free" prior year points was just a sales pitch, and that what you would get is current UY points, and you would pay prorated dues on those current UY points.

With an Oct UY, wouldn't 2019 points be current UY points? If you get 2019 points without paying dues on them, and you pay prorated dues for the 2020 points, then the 2019 points really are free. Am I missing something? (Probably, yes.)

I am glad I'm not the only one!

They are free in that you pay no MF for 2019 points. MF are charged in January, so for 2020 points, even though you don't get your points until October, you pay the fees in January. Buying right now would mean you only pay prorated, basically the fraction that corresponds between now and next January

You don't actually get charged dues until your contract closes, but you will be charged for dues from the date the contract is signed. For instance, I signed in February for my RVA points, but didn't close until April. The bill for dues didn't appear on my account until after closing, but I was still charged prorated based on the Feb date. Hope that helps!

Edit to add that this was only for 2020 dues, 2019 points were "free" in that they had no MFs

Was just told I’d be given an April uy so no 2019 points?? I thought they were doing oct and dec right now.

This makes perfect sense. But why do so many people say that the current year points are not free, and just part of a sales pitch? If I'm getting points that I never paid MF's on, and they are from before I entered into the sales agreement, to me that means they are actually free points. :confused3

From what others have posted, it seems they are trying to avoid giving out more 2019 points and maybe that's why. Was this for RVA?

From my experience, a lot depends on how knowledgeable one's guide is and how willing they might be to plead with their higher ups. My first guide was of the mindset of "this product will sell, so take it or leave it" and wasn't willing to bend anything for me. I called a different time and worked with another guide and she was wonderful

Well, I like to see them as free also, but they're only free in MFs, the upfront cost of the buy in is still part of the equation, right? But I agree with you, if I was going to spend the same money either way (2019 or sans 2019 points) and ended up with the 2019 points, I would consider them free 8-)

Yes RVA. Last week was told I could get oct/dec. Now it’s April.

I was told that they would not sell October or December use years right now, unless you already owned that use year and they needed to match up with it - this was for RIV.

Not to mention that if you don't need to use so many points at once you can rent them our and offset the buy-in price. My mom purchased shortly after I did (she must have anything I do 🤣 ), but when the pandemic started she decided she wasn't going to go this year and ended up renting out her points and was happy about that because it brought her closer to what she originally was going to pay resale at VGF
