Disneyland Reopening Speculation Superthread

I called Disneyland ticketing again today to request a refund. Gave the CM my ticket order #. She looked up the expiration date of the tickets and they've been changed from instead of expiring on 1/12/2021, now the tickets expire on 1/29/2022!

I swear, when I called a little over a week ago, the expiration dates were still January of 2021.

The CM told me that back in JUNE (yes, JUNE!), Disneyland changed the expiration date of all tickets to 2022 for tickets that are 2 days or longer in length.

So that's good news. Now I'm not going to bother to request a refund (which will take 2-3 months according to what the CM told me...she was clearly more knowledgeable than the 2 previous CMs I spoke with...or the script of what they're allowed to say has now changed from a week ago). I'll just hang onto the tickets and we'll go for a short trip next fall around the holidays instead.

I never got an email about any of this. Disneyland didn't announce it. They **did** announce that they were extending the expiration dates of the special So Cal resident multi-day tickets, but there was no announcement about regular multi-day tickets.

I kind of wonder if somebody changed the expiration of MY tickets since I called a couple of times and emailed my complaints?
Interesting, and exciting! I was told on Aug 29th that mine had not been extended, maybe I need to make another phone call. The fact that they haven't made any updates to the app or website makes me very suspicious though.

Just got emailed that my 12/27 reservation at DLH has been cancelled. Such a bummer.
They are in the process of canceling all hotel reservations through the end of the year and they have not open booking yet for 2021. The only rooms it concurrently be back for 2021 appear to be DVC and group room blocks.

What's also interesting is that as of a few days ago, now my DL tickets don't show up in the app. However, when I try to link them again, the app says that the tickets are already linked. So they're still there...they just aren't showing up. The two 1-day parking tickets I bought at the end of January show up on the app. Those now show an expiration date of January 2022, whereas last week, they had an expiration date of January 2021.

Also, when I called DL Ticketing about a week ago and I asked them if they were going to extend the expiration dates of tickets like mine (which are regular multi-day tickets, NOT special So Cal Resident multi-day tickets), I was told that they didn't have any information about that yet, to keep looking on the Disneyland website for more information, etc., etc.

At no time did I ever get an email or phone call from DL about our tickets' expiration date changing. I'm glad that we now have an extra year to be able to use them.

Mine have once again dissappeared from the app, but I never could find an expiration on them when they were visible. I just had the expiration from the actual tickets that were emailed to me when I purchased from UT, and the CM I talked to back in Aug confirmed that they expired Jan 12, 2021. Where are you seeing the expiration on the app?

My AP expires in 6 days ( 😢 ) and I'm going to be sad if it disappears.... Along these lines, has anyone asked about the Promotional Child tickets (that say they're good through Dec 2021) and what to do if the child you bought them for was 9 at the time, but is 10 now? Sigh...

Copy of the email that I received from DVC this morning. Not sure if needed for the Reopening Threads...

Dear DVC Member,

We have more great news to share with you from Disney Vacation Club. Today we’re excited to announce that The Villas at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa will reopen beginning December 6.

This is yet another positive step forward – and our Cast couldn’t be happier to welcome you back home!

Just as we have done at Disney vacation destinations around the world, we are responsibly and thoughtfully implementing new health and safety measures as we re-open. Our gradual approach considers the guidance of government and local health authorities, including the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as that of the U.S. Travel Association and Disney’s team of health and safety professionals. This deliberate approach emphasizes a combination of measures such as:
  • Phased Reopening: During this initial phase, only the Disney Vacation Club Villas at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa will be open. The rest of Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa will remain closed.
  • Health & Wellness: A range of health and safety measures, such as physical distancing, face coverings and increased hand sanitizer stations have been implemented throughout the property.
  • Cleaning & Disinfecting: We’ve updated our procedures for cleaning and disinfecting, with a special emphasis on common areas such as lobbies, elevators and restrooms. And, before your arrival, every room will receive increased cleaning.
  • Cast Member Training & Workplace Safety: Safety starts with our Cast, and we’ve adopted a number of new policies and practices for Cast Members at work, with health screenings, new training, and workplace safety procedure.
During the initial reopening period, most dining, amenities, activities and services will be modified, limited in capacity or unavailable based on physical distancing and health guidelines. In addition, some areas and offerings will remain temporarily closed or unavailable. While Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park currently remain closed, Downtown Disney District has begun a phased reopening and offers a variety of shopping and dining experiences, including the expansion onto Buena Vista Street beginning November 19. Members with upcoming reservations will receive additional information on what to expect at The Villas during their stay soon.

We encourage you to use the Disney Vacation Club website for general information or the Member Online Booking Tool to book or modify a Disney Vacation Club Resort reservation. Details about reopening plans and temporary adjustments to Disney Vacation Club policies are available on the Disney Vacation Club website.

While the new Disney experience may seem a little different, a magical and memorable visit awaits you and your family at The Villas at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. We look forward to welcoming you back home very soon!

Sincerely,

Disney Vacation Club
Thank you for posting this!

If Disney would have said they'd also extend expiration on tickets purchased through third parties, I'd have kept mine!

I called today to inquire about a refund on my tickets (5 day/park hoppers/maxpass bought directly from DL website on a gift card). The first CM was very helpful when I said I was calling about a refund. She explained that the expiration date had been extended to 1/12/22 as well as the whole deal about the ticket always retains its value after this new expiration date. Even before me going into my story about coming from WI would make it virtually impossible for me to exchange at the gate and have openings in the reservation system for that day she said she can put in for a refund is that is what I wanted. I did explain how travel would not happen until even after the new expiration date and how the ressie system is causing me concern and she said that sure, a refund could be made. At this point she did say, and this being the speculation thread I feel it ok to post this, that when the ressie system goes live they have been told it will be for a week out. So if I were coming next week, she said I'd make my ressies this week and also am I sure I don't want to hold onto my tickets because they are not going to be selling new ones until anyone that currently is holding a ticket has the opportunity to use it. So take that for whatever it's worth.

Ended up my billing address was correct but my shipping address didn't match (and I still l have no idea what it is in their system as she wouldn't tell me what it was, just that it didn't match) and she therefore needed a supervisor to request the refund transaction. That CM was just as nice and helpful as the first, reiterating the fact that I can use the credit after the tickets expire in Jan of 2022. I reexplained my concern with traveling from WI and she totally understood and submitted the request. She said gift card refunds should only take a few days, so fingers crossed I see that show up by the end of the week! So to those of you wishing for ticket refunds, call back and try again.

My immediate reaction was to just say that they're still 9 (what are they going to do, ask for a birth certificate?) if they just barely turned 10, but then I realized that who knows if they'll still pass for 9 when the park actually opens again and they're closer to 11 :sad1:

Children's AP's just like Children's Tickets are valid as long as the child was of the right age when the pass was purchased/first used. You can buy a Children's AP for a 9yo who turns 10 the next day, as long as that AP is activated before the child turns 10, are you safe.

Bad news today on the Skittles chart. San Diego is back to purple. Orange County is still red and Los Angles County is still purple (the numbers are unchanged in both). Numbers state-wide are up and not doing any better than FL as far as spread is concerned. It does tend to make you wonder if the restrictions are doing any good at all.

Dr. Ghaly again admitted that most of the increase in cases is due to small gatherings and people not following basic guidance on mask wearing and social distancing, as well as "covid fatigue" that makes people let their guard down around people they "know well or are related to."

He said that in most counties with increasing rates, they have not tied those increases to places of business, but HAD made connections to places of worship.

Right? We bought the tickets to use last spring, and she turned 10 last summer. So by the time they’re open again, she’ll be much closer to 11 than to 9. 🙄 I realize that I won’t lose the money I paid for them, but she was pretty excited about getting a three day ticket, and that promotional amount won’t even buy a two day ticket.

Can I ask where have you seen or heard this? I thought I had read with regular children's tickets that a child had to be 9 when you actually used the ticket? That would be nice if it was actually a (covid) policy, as I'm a bit uncomfortable asking my child to lie to save a little money. (But equally annoyed that I wouldn't get to take advantage of that deal, haha, when we bought it to use in good faith!)

This is what I was meaning/saying. Only an activated AP (one that has been used) would still be good. My reading of the post I was responding to was that the child had an AP with a few months left on it. This AP would still be good even if the child turned 10 or possibly even 11 before the parks reopen.

Hi everyone,

Jumping in to remind you that political discussions/opinions are not allowed on the Disboards. I've had to delete a few posts. If you're talking about a topic and cite the source that just happens to be a political figure then that is okay, but once opinions/conjectures regarding politics are stated then those posts are not following the guidelines.

Er, I'm fairly sure there's no such thing as a child's AP. Definitely not at DLR. There's just APs for age 3 and up. So this doesn't really help with a child's ticket (not AP) that hasn't been used yet.

I would hope Disney would still honor the children's specially priced promotional tickets if the child was within the correct age range prior to shut down
