State of Fast Pass Return (or replacement)

Considering a holiday should be fun and stress free, trying to grab and pay for fp's and sticking your head in your phone for most of the day does not sound fun.

In the old days of paper FP, you had to play a similar game, except not on your phone. There were large boards in certain places in the parks that showed current FP return times for the major rides. To get a FP you had to literally run all the way to the ride to get your paper FP, and your return time was nearly always later by then. We’d send one designated runner to do this for our whole party. It was pain, and you never knew if you were going to get to experience your favorite rides that day, because some FPs sold out early.

The great thing was that if you had to leave the park early and still had an in-demand paper FP, you could just give it to someone entering the park! That was a fun way to spread a little pixie dust. :flower:

Can we talk about how dumb the name Disney Premier Access is for a fastpass type program, especially when they already use Disney+ Premier Access?
In France it's called 'Access Premium' in the Netherlands it's called 'VIP access' on Disney+. Disneyland Paris has a minimum of 6 languages they communicate in, French, English, Dutch, Spanis, German and Italian. There is no name that would not cause confusion in some way in one of the languages.

Our vacation is still 165 days out. Personally, I just want to know what to expect. Park times/schedule, EMH, dining time line idea, and what the FP system will entail so I can adjust our plans if need be. I'd rather know the bad, and move on than deal with the unknown.

We booked one of the Universal resorts specifically for the express passes. We knew what we were getting and adjusted that part of our vacation to account for it.

I would really like to be able to do the same with the Disney portion. The good, the bad, and/or the ugly -

I definitely miss those days. I actually loved running around the park with my brother (or by myself after he went to college) grabbing fast passes for my parents and I, while they relaxed with a coffee.

That was my favorite version of FP --- since the return windows were not strictly enforced, you could collect a pocketful of fastpasses throughout the day --- made evenings wonderful!

I think there will be a slightly altered version of this rolled out for Walt Disney World. The only difference is that resort guests (depending on resort type) will be allocated anywhere from 1 to 3 complimentary ones to start off with. Here's my prediction:
- Non-Good Neighbor Offsite: 0 "Complimentary" FastPasses
- Value, Good Neighbor Resorts, and Annual Passes: 1 "Complimentary" FastPass Per Day
- Moderate Resorts: 2 "Complimentary" FastPasses Per Day
- Deluxe Resorts: 3 "Complimentary" FastPasses Per Day
Each tier would then be able to buy extra fast passes at any point if they want to move quicker through the lines. I'm not saying I'm a fan of this, but reading into everything else they are doing seems to point to a tiered-setup like this.

I think all guests will get one. And APs will get some additional.

One of the things I've loved about Disney in recent years is how stress free it was, and how you could essentially get the feeling of an all-inclusive if you wanted to (especially if you use DDP, which my family doesn't for various reasons, but even then it feels pretty all-inclusive to me). It's stress-free for the most part, knowing you can get on the rides you want to get on, and yes it takes a little planning, but the payoff of fastpass+ when you're there has always been more than worth it to me.

If they actually used a model like DLP (which, to be clear, I don't believe they will), I'd feel so nickel & dimed having to go into the app and pay an extra $40 for a ride we used to get on with no problem, included with our ticket price. It would completely eliminate that relaxed feeling we used to get. And if I'm not relaxed and having fun on vacation then honestly there's no point in going for me. I'd go somewhere else at that point.
