The DisFort's Chit Chat Cafe

@garneska, What up with the thumb?
I have De Quervain’s syndrome. which is a tendonitis in my thumb from my wrist. while I have a quite some pain doing lots of things thumb related, picking up that coffee or wine glass is quite a problem. Am sure it has nothing to do with the major falls I took many years ago. Wearing a splint at night, it helps but the past couple of weeks have been painful. Chalking it up to knee nit hurting as much 😂

you all are funny. But yeah Bert said no to tent camping. We be glamping. I still am up for backpacking but that is not the same. Hiking for 10 to 14 miles then sleeping is way different.
...

Oh and since I am complaining i Would like my Mallory back. I miss her.

The referendum was for YOU to Tent Camp . Bert will NOT BE REQUIRED to join you unless he so chooses.
My heart goes out to you on missing your Girl. After 5 years I still look for my Wookie. When the time comes the dog you are supposed to have will find you trust me

Hey Bama Ed Just saw an article that means there is a JOB opening you might be interested in. Apparently there is suddenly an opening for a VP of Student Life at The University of Alabama

I'm sad to say I saw the article too, Mike. Apparently it pays well .....

I hear what you're saying, @mickeyfan0805. It can be a rough few years with all the kids getting older and on their own calendars and commitments.

It might be a situation where as the kids grow up that you and DW might want to resume the camping trips again (just the two of you) in a Class A or Class C and the kids (when you invite them) are welcome to join you and throw a tent on the ground (on their own dime).

I'm here to tell you that these can be some good years for you and DW. Sure you'll miss the kids. Me and my DW go to Gulf Shores and WDW with past memories around every corner. Indeed it might make sense again at some point in the future but your family will have a treasure trove of memories that you will have given them.

Hope you took lots of pix. Put them in an old fashioned photo album for each one someday.

Bama Ed

Yeah - thanks. As you likely recall, we've been on the verge of this before, but this time we know we need to pull the pin.

In the coming years, DW will likely move to a more traditional clinic schedule as she looks towards more full-time employment when the youngest heads to college. With my Sunday commitments and our northern location, it just leaves little room for camping for a while. My greatest hope is that DW will be open to re-engaging as retirement comes closer and the prospect of setting up camp near kids (and eventually grandkids) becomes a possibility. For now, we just have to move on. The memories with kids will take different forms for the next few years, but we'll get them in.

The hardest part is that DS13 still loves to camp, which means I might be stuck in a tent again. I did my time (and then some) in tents when I was a kid - not thrilled at the idea of going back!

Grumpy & myself tent camped for years. Took us a few yrs. to find an RV that felt like home. I loved tent camping. We had a kitchen tent set up, potty tent then our large sleeping tent. But we were hauling too much stuff & decided to look for a camper. I do miss traveling. If possible, I am selling my Toy Hauler, also not fun living in it without Grumpy Aggie. I now have to decide where I want to live. Not happy of apartment living. Don't want a large home. Our son wants me to move to Seguin, Tx., but they are too busy & would never see them & don't know anyone there. So, decisions, decisions. I am praying for guidance from Jesus.

Had an enjoyable birthday weekend. We went to the Timonium RV show Saturday, the day started out nice but ended very windy and cold. Thankfully we were smart and brought layers to deal with that. Not much shopping for an RV as much as looking at what they dare doing. Many manufacturers went back to the awning LED lights that work if the awning is open or closed, I think I am going to add that to ours and keep the light strip that is in the tube.

Sunday was puppy play date and fancy Birthday dinner. Monday was helping my sister a little get settled into her new apartment and then I had planned to wash all the salt off the cars. That plan changed when I went to turn on the hose bib closest to the garage and nothing. I double check inside and nope water is on, I go the front hose bib and its working but leaking badly. I am guessing it did not drain out properly after last use and cracked somewhere at the house line. Both are frost free units and in the heated basement with lots of warmth. So I really did not expect either of these to have frost issues.

So I guess later this week I am replacing at least two of 3 hose bibs at the house. First I need to remove the old ones so I know what size they are and then get replacements. Thankfully they are threaded so other then the pipe dope turning into cement they should come off without too much struggle. I think I will foam around them once the new ones are in to fill the gap. I partly blame myself on one as I left the hose attached, though in all my years living in this area this is the first time I have had issues with frost free bibs in the winter.

I have not posted much lately but here is the good update. I have been running. Not as much as i want. PT is making it a slow start but am running without pain, every other day, and doing intervals but happy to be getting out there. Plus we are hiking. Planning the overnight trip in May.

That's good Kris. Listen to your PT. No big runs on the horizon. Take your time and build back to it.

Today I spent most of the day so far getting the garage organized for my furniture refinishing project. We are refinishing a maple china cabinet with rosewood inlays. Taking it from a dated 70's look from my parents and making it a little more modern of a stain and hardware without pulling away from the gorgeous inlays. I will probably upgrade the single incandescent display lamp with an LED strip as well for lighting.

Anyway in going through many things in the garage, I found a box of stuff from the old Bus RV. One of them items in the box is a Trik-L-Start chassis battery maintainer. It saps a little juice off the house batteries to keep the chassis batteries topped off. I have no use for it, but if any of my Dis friends could make use of it in their class A or C chassis. let me know, I would rather it get put to use then collect dust.

Well that would be cool battery maintainer vs my having two chargers on at a time.

Ok so fixed my beams in the basement. They were cracked and gave off too much deflection in the living room. They needed to be sistered up. 20220301_152707.jpg20220301_152718.jpg20220301_152728.jpg20220301_152702.jpg So instead of waiting for help, trugged through it. Its done , but im not 30 anymore. I am sore. Not used to working over my head all day. Next up wiring for lights and outlets, then to rebuild the train layout. Stay tuned. You have no choice , I'm posting it anyway!
