Marathon Weekend 2024

Looking forward to it! SAFD really helps to build anticipation for MW - even though I'm not planning to attend in 2024 (for now), I would miss SAFD if it went away!
Just to be clear, I was never suggesting that SAFD go away, just that it should be in its own thread since many (most?) of the posts it generates are not MW 2024 related (and often aren't even running related).

For a lot of us I think it maintains and creates a sense of community for those of us planning to attend Marathon Weekend (or who have in the past or want to in the future).

The SAFD questions are a mix of general Disney questions and specific questions around Marathon Weekend (goals, plans, training check-ins) and keep a heightened sense of excitement for an event that's months away.
Agree 100%

SAFD:
Good Morning runDisney All-Stars! It is time for Sunday’s Are For Disney. For any new folks this is a weekly question asked about Marathon Weekend, runDisney, Disney or running. Everyone is welcome, and encouraged, to respond - so any “lurkers” please join, we would all love to hear from you. There are a lot of weeks in a year, so a lot of SAFD. I am open to, and grateful for any question suggestions! So if you have something you want asked shoot me a message and i will post it.

Today’s question: Are you hoping to run Marathon Weekend 2024? What are you hoping to do, any goals?

My answer: In a word, yes! I am planning to run MW2024, if the odds remain in my favor I will get a Dopey Registration as I absolutely love that challenge; well love/hate it! I am not sure on any specific race goals, too early. But I suppose an overall goal is to finish my 8th Dopey happy and healthy.

SAFD: I haven't decided yet. I don't want to do the marathon again unless I get a whole lot faster, because highway miles directly into the sun are 🤬 But I'll most likely be in Orlando during MW anyway, so I may try to sign up for the 10K or HM (even if the HM has highway miles, at least it will still be dark). Ask me again when it's time for registration 😅

SAFD: Unless something takes ahold of me, I’m a one and done for Dopey. I really enjoyed the half this year especially riding the tea cups since that was a first for me! Also the crowds on Main Street were simply magical! That along with the great characters in MK made for a memorable and enjoyable race so I think I’d like the half again in ‘24.

SAFD: I plan to run Dopey #7 at Marathon Weekend 2024, because, well, see my guiding philosophy under my avatar pic. I've done Goofy before to save money and vacation time and just didn't enjoy it. It felt like I wasn't getting the full experience of the weekend. I very much look forward to MW every year because I get to see everyone in person!

SAFD: probably not lol. I’d definitely like to do Goofy down the line (realized I’m content with JUST Goofy going forward and also I don’t think Dopey is feasible with work right now), but the DL weekend is forcing me to choose, and I’m leaning DL. If I miss out on that and they don’t announce fall DL races… maybe.

SAFD: a week ago I would have said definitely not but I had such a great time running my second Dopey I’m tempted. Part of it will depend on if I do W&D this year or not. I’m done with Marathon distance for now - I could see myself running Dopey again for the 15th anniversary but definitely not in 2024. If I attend I would be doing the half and trying to squeeze in the HH meet up (missed it again this year) and maybe my first DATW.

SAFD:
At this point I have no idea if we will plan a trip for MW, but since my husband is an absolute gem who keeps going to disney with me simply because it makes me happy, I'll operate under the premise that we ARE going. We have 3 months to decide, right?

Races: probably goofy, but I might eat my words and say Dopey in a few months. My anxiety seems to be much like the pain of childbirth, and once I got all of the medals, and ears, and pictures, was it really that bad? Yes. It was. But maybe less terrifying now that I've done it? DH made a comment about running everything except the marathon, and it's a lot more fun to do the 5k and 10k with someone than it is on your own. @camaker I'm constantly using the line below your avatar when people ask my why I run these marathons, and it always makes them laugh.

Goals:
to finish. That's always the goal. Do I dream of a day when I could get a POT and get out of the "party" section of the corrals? Maybe. But I'm not sure I'd want to swap the "OMG can you believe we're doing this?!" vibe from the back of the pack for the (and I'm making an assumption here) more serious runners toward the front. (Although I could definitely do with less of the panic-y "where are the balloon ladies?!" feel in the back corrals.)
