Well shoot.

I went ahead and applied for a CIC but forgot that I had frozen my Experian, so of course it says unfreeze it and then call us back. I unfroze it online and called, and now it says they will have a decision in 2 weeks.

Probably not a good sign, huh?

If I were in your shoes I would go for the 50K MRs for only $2K.
It is a low spend for 50,000 MRs. I will probably go with an INK for DH or myself - since not sure when this high of SUB with lower spend will be available again. Then will have to see what other card to get.

Hah....same for me. Since the public offer moved to the 90k UR I bit the bullet but forgot to remove the freeze. Once I removed it I called Lending Verification and got the approval completed. Make sure you press to speak with someone. The 2 weeks seems to be a canned recording. As soon as I spoke with someone they knew to rerun the report.

Oh and to top it off - I got 2 offers for RCCL on my AMEX Cards. Pay $1000 earn 25,000 MR's. (The Europe cruise is RCCL and that would pay for all but about $1000 but would take spend from any new cards I may get.
And @wanderlust7 , you might be interested as well if you got this offer. Was reading this post from FM about Royal Caribbean doing cruise match offers. They'll match offers you get from other cruise lines, and the better the offer or sometimes casino status, you can get a "free" cruise. What's really intersting about Royal Caribbean's cruise match offer is that if both you and DH submit a match, you can pool your offers and take a better cabin, up to a junior suite. Also sounds like if you can book before the end of the month you can stack kids "free."

Only issue is the "free" or discounted cruises only appear to be good until end of March or so?

@LynnTH Doesn't help your dilemma but thought I'd throw another deal out there at you :rotfl2:

Unfortunately, I can't think of anywhere I could get a decent cruise offer to match and the casino merry go round seems like it's at a halt. But I do have the Amex offer on 3 cards, so it's a shame to go to waste!

I’m pretty sure back in the “before times” the two week message was a good sign

Oh... I did not speak to a real person. Will try again!

ETA: It worked! Instantly approved (in fact I got the email before the agent came back on the line).

Thank you so much for the suggestion to call and speak to a real person!

Hi. Frequent Edinburgh visitor here and have also visited other parts of Scotland. Since it sounds like your trip will be fairly short, you probably need to decide whether you want to cover a lot of ground without staying long in each place, or just go to one or two places and cover those more thoroughly. Edinburgh is a fantastic city, and you could easily stay there for a week without running out of things to do. There are also lots of day trips you can do from Edinburgh either on your own taking the train, or with an organized tour. We have done several tours with Rabbie's, and they have all been very good. They even have a (long) day trip from Edinburgh to the Highlands if that is on your list. Or you could spend three or four nights in Edinburgh and several nights in Inverness to be able to spend more time in the Highlands. In terms of where to stay in Edinburgh, for a first-time visitor, I always think it is fun to be on the Royal Mile, but if you have certain hotels in mind, I can try to give feedback. Not sue when your spring break is, but DH and I are headed to our flat in Edinburgh on March 13, so we might be there at the same time :)
Are there any secrets to using Qantas points? I have a ton stuck from our cancelled 2020 COVID trip to Australia. For 3 round trip in business, it was over $4k. Ouch!

Also, I didn’t explore the temperature of Scotland in March. We typically don’t like to vacation in the same cold as MD. Is it really in the 40s? DS did offer up Paris, Rome or Greece as other birthday spots.

Has anyone seen any offers for LL Bean? I try to avoid them because having to pay for shipping any returns, but I have a specific Christmas list request I need to fulfill.
Sign up for their emails and texts. I get discount texts from them all the time.

Another Chase match DP. I SMd earlier about DHs CIC which we're working on MSR for and was told they'd give him the 15k points when spend was complete. I had gotten a CIC in June but figured it was too long ago. After seeing all the positive DPs, I figured what the heck. SMd yesterday 15k URs in my account today!

We spent one day in the Highlands in August and it was pretty much like my CA winter weather, but with more rain. It was still an amazing day, and on the plus side I feel like we don't get as tired when it's not hot when we are touring.

One one of our trips, Rome in March was warm, Paris in April was unseasonably warm as was London afterwards. I think it's hard to tell what you'll get but the closer to the Med you go in the Spring the better the weather IMHO.

Adding my Chase DP: used P2's link for the 75K CIU offer, instant approval, SM'd for the match the next business day, and got a reply today that I'll be matched to the higher offer, with the original MSR of $7500. Unfortunately, I applied before the 90K went public...watch, the support links will show the increased offer tomorrow. 😆

No secret to using Qantas points. We had almost a million Qantas points that we had used to book JAL first and Biz class flights to Japan for a 2020 trip that got cancelled to due to Covid. Have worked them down to under 500k by using them to book BA flights to and from London/Scotland. You just search the Qantas site for award travel and the BA flights will pop up. You do need to make sure you are searching from a U.S. airport that BA flies to. So, for example, I can’t search for flights from BOI and have to search for flights from DEN or DFW. The number of Qantas points required does seem higher for the same flights than BA Avios, but I have still found it worth it to use up those points. The taxes and fees are equivalent to BA and are high for flights through LHR.

The temps you have seen for Scotland in March are probably accurate, although that’s one of the few months I haven’t been there. I have found the weather to be fairly changeable, so you might get some nicer days in March. It will definitely be colder in the Highlands than in Edinburgh.

Thanks for the heads up but I'm annoyed. DOC posted a $100mc fee free online only deal earlier which I read and skipped on due to it being online. Turns out it was a mistake.

Meanwhile I had a $900 purchase to make where I could have used the $200 MC's, and could have waited to buy them until Sunday. Instead I did my purchase before the correct info came out.

I'll buy some anyway but hate missing out!

Has anyone flown SW in Oct on points? Did your flights count towards A list status? I know they gave us credit for Jan-Sept. Trying to decide if I need to switch to $ flights to maintain A list status for next year.

I'm flying on points 11/6-11/13. Can let you know after, if that's not too late for your needs.

That whole "congrats, your past flights count towards A list" was really weird anyway. Normally, you'd do that to incentivize people to book the trip, but it was all retroactive. Bizarre. Now, if they had announced it as "through 2022 so book your flights now" that would have made more sense to me.

Thanks. I think I messed up with booking flights on points instead of $ to maintain our A list status.

so I couldn't find this on the web anywhere finally got my Global entry renewed the date online is 6 years from now do I need a new physical card? do they send it to me?

Is a physical Global Entry card automatically sent once you're approved?

initially yes renewal id imagine they use the same picture. I'm not sure.
Yes, they automatically sent me a new card after my renewal. They reuse the same pic. Good thing it's a web cam pic in B&W on a small card so it doesn't look completely horrible while still mostly looking like me. #unintentionalFilters (I totally wasn't thinking about taking a picture when I went to the appointment... if there's a next time, I'll remember no open windows on the car ride over...) I try not to think about the full sized color pic that's stored for posterity.

I do find it weird that there's not a picture update but they let passports go for 10 years, maybe they'll have a cycle where after so many renewals there needs to be an update? IDK but for me I renewed online, I think it was auto approved, and then within the next two weeks the new card showed up. Just remember to go activate it on the site after you get it, IIRC.
