January 2010. . . Anyone else going???

What about breakfast in the Whispering Canyon Cafe? Is it quiet to eat breakfast in there or do they do the shanigans at breakfasttime too?

Thanks for the info.

We liked the CBR last time. I hate to pay WL prices, but I think I'm going to enjoy walking inside to go down to breakfast.

We did WCC breakfast once- the food was standard breakfast fare - we got the breakfast skillet. It was another early morning ADR, before we hit the parks. We were on DlxDDP, smoothies were included, and they were yummy! While we were there no shenanigins happened, I thought they would, but maybe because it was so early they didn't:confused3

I loved the lobby, and coming home every night. I beleive every room has a balcony, from what I saw. Walking to the bus stop was easy - there was just one, getting to MK and on the monorail was easy. Sitting by the pool you felt like you were some where else other than WDW, a mini vacation in your vacation. I wish we spent more time at the resort, but we love the parks too much and they won the vote.
The WL FAQ thread really helped us. We had booked to go back to the ASMo, but when the 4/3 deal came out our luck changed and it was cheaper for us to go to WL! :yay:

I really hope for a good deal this time as well. It will only be DD and I, previously we had my mom with us who shared in some of the expense - love moms! :goodvibes

I think the boys would love WL too! I'm just not sure if I would. I'd really hate to pay extra when the room is the same size as CBR's rooms. You know? I realize that it is very close to MK, but still. Do all rooms have a balcony at WL?

We definitely don't mind the motel-style of the moderates/values. Walking out of our door straight to the outside is fine with us at Disney. The tiny rooms and single sink are a huge drawback for us with the values. But if that is the only thing budget will allow, I guess we will tough it out! :rotfl:

Decisions decisions. . . . :confused3

Shelly! Yes ALL rooms at WL have a balcony! However, not all rooms have a great view! We paid for a woods view and ended up with a view of some scraggly trees near the service garage! :confused3 We were able to see wishes from our balcony though! :thumbsup2

I am not a huge snob when it comes to hotel room size. I have stayed in my fair share of hotels though. I really didn't find the rooms at the values to be "so small" It just felt like a normal sized hotel room to me. :) The rooms at the WL were larger but I found them to feel a bit cramped with the huge furniture!

We too ate breakfast at WCC one morning of our stay at WL this past January. We had a 9:05am ADR. It wasn't really noisy but we were treated to a few bits of sillyness. The kids also got to participate in the pony rides! My DH had the skillet, DD 5 had french toast, DD8 had eggs and I had an omelette. All good food and very filling, just not amazingly outstanding! For good service, nice food and a fun time I would say why not check it out?

Hey guys
We're planning a trip for January 2010 at POP, but we're unsure when to stay?

We have the 2nd through the 16th free with our schedules.
Should we do the 3rd through the 10th or the 9th through the 16th? Or something in between?
We know we want to go for a week.
How are crowds? Now, we went last year in July, as we are Rope Drop people who take advantage of Fast Passes and we had no problem with crowds/wait times except for one day in July on ToT - so we aren't too worried
But with the marathon, what should we do?
Right now we are aiming for the 3rd through the 10th
Any advice??
Why not go the 2nd through the 16th :rotfl: Hey we can dream can't we!
We went the very last week of Jan and the crowds were great. The first couple of days were more crowded and then it thinned out by Monday or Tuesday.
As far as clothes...I agree with everyone else- LAYERS!!! We wore pants, shorts, t-shirts, sweatshirts, and my kids even wore heavier coats one evening because it was chilly enough. I'd rather pack layers than go in July like we did for our honeymoon way back when. That was one hot week. After this past Jan DH and I agreed that we will be Snowbirds for life!
Well our plans, as of right now, have us at WDW January 8-16, 2010. We are hoping to stay in a MK view room at the CR with the DlxDDP. The plan is that we are either going to pick up the boys early from school or just get them up and act like they are going to school and then go to the airport. We are going to be flying out on DS10 birthday and then hopefully stay until the 16th, if not at least 6 days. My birthday is the 10th, so we will be celebrating two birthdays while we are there. The DS's know about the trip, but they think it isn't until September 2010, so they still get to help plan and yet still get to be suprised.

So far, I have all of our ADR's picked, but will more than likely tweak it if the park hours come out before the 90 day out mark. This is mainy b/c this is a rescheduled trip and I'm just using the ADR calendar I made for the last one as a starting point. Since we will be there for two birthdays, I will more than likely adjust it so we eat where we want for our bday dinners. Also I am thinking about getting two cakes, one for my DS and one for me on each of our bdays. I asked DS if he could pick on place to eat for dinner where would it be. He just wants room service, so we can eat in our PJ's and watch the fireworks from our room. DS10's I would like delivered to the room while we are in the parks on his bday, and mine I will just have where ever we have dinner. DS10's cake will be a Stitch themed cake, and I would like them to take a small chunk out so it looks like Stitch took a bite of it. For mine I found a Tink cake that I really like on the cake thread, or maybe something to do with the new Up movie.
Ooooh I like the "get them up and pretend they are going to school" surprise! Very sneaky!!!!:woohoo:
I think I'm going to have to head over to that cake thread. It will be DH's bday while we are there. It was his bday while we were there last year and it didn't go as planned. I planned a Chef Mickey breakfast and requested the Bday centerpiece and told them ahead of time it was his bday and all was forgotten when we arrived. It kinda ruined the surprise when I had to get up and obviously tell someone. At least I get a chance for a re-do this time!
Sheree-You're not alone as a Snowbird stalker!!! :rotfl: You know I can't stay away from the Birdies! Who knows, maybe with enough convincing, we can go again in Jan. I think my DH would have to somehow get amnesia and forget that we've ever gone to WDW for that to happen, but I can dream right?
Come on you want to be a Snowbird again :rolleyes1
I know, it's a tough decision.

We are definitely decided on BCV or YC if we can happen to afford the most expensive scenario. We just love the Boardwalk area. But this is probably very unlikely with DH's hours being cut at work and with us getting ready to move. Always so many unexpected expenses with moving. :sad2:

I think the boys would love WL too! I'm just not sure if I would. I'd really hate to pay extra when the room is the same size as CBR's rooms. You know? I realize that it is very close to MK, but still. Do all rooms have a balcony at WL?

Oh my you have lots on your mind!

I've compared the rooms at CBR and ASMo and there isn't a huge difference- CBR has 2 sinks- no biggie for us, ASMo is a little smaller in size but we don't spend much time in the room anyway and my kids are still small, etc.

My DH's main concern is the Food Court- of course. How does ASMo's Food Court compare with CBR's??? Do they have the same types of food?

Our trip is depending on a lot of things too. . . DH's job, WDW deals, moving, etc. . . I am very hopeful though that we will be able to make it happen! :wizard:

Here are our narrowed down resort possibilities in price-ranges depending on what the deal is and what we can afford at the time. . .

BCV or YC

WL or OKW

POR or CBR-pirate room

ASMo or POP

Any thoughts or opinions??? :yay:

Personally, we would pick the WL, of those choices if it's in the budget. We have only stayed at two Disney resorts so far, the WL and CBR. We really liked both, but prefer the WL. However if the WL wasn't in the budget, we would pick the CBR-pirate room. I think my boys would really like the pirate rooms.

Hi there! It's been a while since I've checked and you have a new thread now. I'm excited that May is over. Can't wait for our trip!

Someone mentioned that Roaring Forks food court at WL is very small. How's their breakfast? We enjoyed the food court at CBR last time. I loved that they had boards above each station showing what that station served. I wonder if they meant Roaring Forks being small as in not much seating or what? Anyone know?

My 4 year old doesn't understand why he isn't going to school. Having trouble explaining summer vacation to him. When he's older he'll sure appreciate it. Ha!

The size of Roaring Forks is the only thing that I don't like about the WL. It is not only small, but the lay out is bad. We didn't have any trouble finding a table, but I think we went during a not so busy time. I could imagine it being a nightmare during peak eating times. Since we usually don't eat at the CS at the resort, this wouldn't keep us from going back to the WL.

Just think in a couple of year, that little one that can't understand why he can't go to school, will want to know why he has to go to school.

Honestly our favorite thing about the WL is the balconies. Once we got the boys into bed, we would sit on the balcony with coffee and discuss the plan for the next day. We were on the third floor on the side facing the MK, all the way at the end nearest the boat dock. We couldn't see the MK, but we could see the fireworks pop through the trees.

We haven't been to WDW in January, yet but since I don't like the heat and humidty I totally agree with you. I would much rather have to add more layers, than be in that heat. Even though I would love to go sometime in July, b/c our wedding anniversary is July 1st and we met at the MK, I don't want to have to deal with the heat and humidity of a FL summer. We did go for our 5th wedding anniversary, but we only went for 2 days. Also, I think we got lucky b/c it rained most of the time we were there. However when it wan't raining, it was super humdit and very hot.
I think that's the one we'll go with, so that we can get to WDW earlier.

WooHoo....add me!

DBF, DD and I are going the 5th-10th. DBF's BIL is doing the marathon and they're staying for a few extra days. I decided we're going as well. :)

I thought it was pretty darn hot that last week of Jan, at least at the beginning of the week.

I pre-ordered one of the basic chocolate cakes last year for hubby's bday dinner at Cali Grill. When I mentioned it at check in, they promised it was taken care of. When we got our table, we had a perfect table for four by the window with a beautiful view of the castle. The table was covered in "special" castle pixie dust. And as soon as we finished our meal, they brought out the coffee and the cake and our table and a few others nearby quietly sang Happy Birthday. It was the most magical thing I could've imagined. The cake on the other hand was pretty blah. But it was MUCH more about the experience than the cake! I think it was the $21 cake or something.

A balcony sure would be nice. :cloud9:

I guess I am a hotel snob when it comes to rooms size! :rotfl: Maybe it's because I have to share a room with 3 boys for an entire week. :confused3 Or maybe because we spend more time at the resort than your average family.

I can tell the difference in the room size between CBR and the other moderates, and it's only a little bit of a difference. I've never been in a value room, but I know I would be able to notice a big difference! :scared:Plus my boys are getting bigger everyday. :sad2:

Oh my you have lots on your mind!

::yes::

My DH's main concern is the Food Court- of course. How does ASMo's Food Court compare with CBR's??? Do they have the same types of food?

We didn't eat at at the ASMo food court, but we did walk through it and check it out when we went to visit ASMo last May. I'd say it is very comparable to CBR's food court.

Yes it will be a tough decision, that's for sure! WL would be a great new experience. CBR would be something we know we love, plus the added bonus of the pirate room! pirate: I don't think we can go wrong really! :goodvibes

Afternoon Snowbird friends!

We had neighborhood garage sales today. I've been in my garage for 7 hours now!! We are getting ready to close up and go inside and count the money!! :yay: Hoping to have lots to add to the Disney fund! :wizard:

Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend. We are having a beautiful weekend so far, sunny and 77! :goodvibes

Hello Snowbirds!
Yesterday I was missing WDW!
The weather was so nice and it just felt like a Disney day. I was in the mood to stroll MK or World Showcase and just take it in and relax. :cloud9:It's really been the first time I miss is (other than the depression you get when you leave your trip).
Today again is a great day, and again I said, oh it would be a perfect MK day, and I hummed the Main Street music :goodvibes
So we got some gardening done and I finished Kingdom Keepers a few minutes ago.
I am still resort hopping in my mind!
had to check in with you all as I am in a Disney frame of mind!:wizard:

Hey all! It's a stormy day today. It's so dark and dreary here that even though I've opened all the blinds, I still had to turn on lights to be able to see very well in the house!!! And something is wrong with our Dishnetwork, because 2 of our tv's share a receiver, but you're supposed to be able to watch different things...NOT today! Drew's in the living room watching Disney channel, and I'm in the bedroom (just finished folding 8 baskets full of laundry :laundy: ---EEK!!!) so I have to watch dvd's or watch whatever he's watching. So far I've made it thru Transformers and part of National Treasure 2! That's alot of darn laundry, but it's all done except for one load of towels in the dryer. I think they may have to stay there awhile!!:confused3

Totally random thought---I'm thinking we may have to try the picnic lunch at AK. There's really not any restaurants there we love, (except for the onion rings at Flame Tree) Any opnions on this??

I was thinking about that too, but my DH and I really wanted to try Yak & Yeti for lunch and most of our dinner have us going back to EPCOT.

Right now I'm just waiting for August and the 2010 packages to come out. Since we want to get a MK view room at the CR, my DH won't let me book it until they come out.

Alot of our dinners are Epcot, too! I could probably eat there (or the Boardwalk area) every night if I could. I'm anxiously awaiting the package info, too. Interested to see how much DDP will change. Also waiting until I've been at my new job a few weeks before I casually ask how long I have to be there before I take a week off! I'm on "probation" there for year, but every place works differently.

hey snowbirds. DH and I just booked jan 4-9 in an AKV studio (decided to leave before the Marathon). it will be our first Jan trip as we usually go the week after Labor Day. Now that we are DVCers, we trying 2 trips a year. I hope it's not too crowded--we are spoiled with the low September crowds. But looking forward to the cooler weather since it's so hot in September and figure it will be warm in comparison to CT.

:welcome: to the Snowbirds!

Hi we are DVC members and we try to do two trips a year. September we go the third week with the kids and sometimes family member go. In January just my DH and I go for parents only trip. We are going in Jan. 2010 hopefully staying at AKV arriving on the 10th and checking out on the 14th and then moving to Pop on the 14th and checking out on the 16th.

Hi everyone!

I was excited to find this thread! I have been looking all over for some info on going in January.

We went on our first trip last year in Sept during free dining and were hoping to go back again this Sept but it did not work out so we are considering going in Jan - sometime around the 15th.

It is driving me nuts to not be able to see pricing or anything for that time yet! I called thinking that they can give me some info on the phone but the CM said not until July.

So, planning is on hold for now I guess and it looks like Oct will be the month with getting park hours, making ADR's and we have to book our flights by mid Oct (we have airline credit we have to use before then).

Can you guys give me the scoop on going in January? How's the weather? We were there in late Sept during free dining and while I don't have anything to compare it too I thought it was crowded but not too terrible but it definitely was HOT. We live in northeast Ohio so I'm thinking that whether it is 50, 60 or 70 degrees it is going to feel great to us because it will probably be 20 here!

I'll be following the thread! :)

I can't hardly wait for January 2010 to come and go to disney and stay in the CBR!
