Oh boy....I could say so many things! It was a "hot" date! But seriously, stopped and bought a hair dryer and big flashlight on the way home, found a long extension cord, got a big piece of cardboard out of the garage so I didn't have to lay on the snowy ground while crawling through the opening, AND couldn't get the tiny door to the crawlspace open. I couldn't tell if it was frozen or if I just don't know how to open it, but I got frustrated and just went inside and called a plumber. They have a huge list of houses waiting for them to come thaw pipes and have bought an extra pipe thawing machine to help keep up with demand. Didn't know such a machine existed. In the meantime, the plumber's office told me to crank my heat up higher and open my cabinets so the warm air can get in and that sometimes helps. Not sure, but after having the heat cranked up for an hour, water started flowing from the faucet in the bathtub! WOOHOO! Now I'm still hoping the one in the kitchen sink will do the same. Otherwise the plumber will be coming to thaw only the cold water going to the kitchen sink. My homeowner's insurance will only cover the cost if the pipes actually burst.
So now I'm paranoid because it's supposed to get down to 9 below tonight with wind chills 20-30 below, so I've been turning on all the faucets every half hour and will leave them running a little when I go to bed.
Glad to hear things are working out. An emergency plumber bill could be costly.
