Good morning! It is fall-like here, for sure, with wet leaves all over the place, a little blustery, but warm, in the high 60s yesterday. It got quite warm in the house overnight but I didn’t want to turn the AC back on at this time of year, although we did enjoy it all summer (even if our electric bills were high!).
@lynxstch We got a new furnace about seven or eight years back and decided to do central air at that time, too. It was a bit of a cluster as they had to move the furnace for the AC to make room for the pipes - fortunately we had a forced air system already in place. We were kicking ourselves because we had gotten an estimate years before and the cost was “only” about $3500 then. We probably should’ve bitten the bullet then, but it wasn’t too bad in the house most of the time and a dip in the pool at night before bedtime is pretty cooling. One of our largest rooms is half underground so naturally cooler, and one large AC unit worked pretty well down there for the hottest days, we could even sleep down there with sleep sofas and such. But then we got some portable AC units for the rest of the house and that was a disaster, plus DS was having asthma attacks from a tree outside of his window as well as general seasonal allergens so he couldn’t use a fan anymore. With the portables the cost was crazy to run, even with updated electric they were too much on the system, and they didn’t really cool the house very well, either, the way our house is set up. They also ruined a couple of rugs when they leaked. So that’s when we said forget it and got central air. By then the cost had tripled, but it was probably better to do when we got a newer and better furnace anyway. We love it. Where we live most older houses don’t have it. So I’m with you on what a relief it is to finally get it! {high five}
Adventurous day yesterday with a medical appt in Boston. Got yelled at in the garage as I mistakenly went to the usual area where I park and apparently that had turned into a Covid testing area, lol. Some of these people they have manning the garages and such these days aren’t very nice. It left a bad taste in my mouth. Fortunately when I went inside the secretary there remembered me (even though it’s a specialist I don’t see very often) and genuinely said it was nice to see me. That made my day and the previous encounters in the garage faded away. Toto came with me and I took him to a nice dog park he loves afterward so that was pleasant, too, although parking meters are only by App now, so that took me a little while to figure out and I almost didn’t bother - but he’s worth it. I also hit one of my favorite shops on the way home, unrushed, and it was fun, even though I inadvertently spent too much it felt so good to be there! I needed cold cuts at home for lunches so I picked some up and made Toto and me a sandwich to keep it relatively healthy, rather than fast food. And I also bought myself some pretty fall flowers that look nice with my fall decor. Then last night we bought a dishwasher as ours has been on the fritz for too long. DH will install it tonight. Little things that make us happy, right?
@Snowysmom The condo sounds great! You love it up there so it sounds like you’ll be happy with it and some R&R in the mountains. I haven’t looked into a WDW trip much because thankfully, we’d gotten one in this past March just as things were closing down there so I’m not feeling a huge pull, but reading and listening to what some are saying, there is a big ? about whether it’s worth all the time and expense while things are still somewhat limited. OTOH it would be nice to be there, still, so it’s a toss up, I guess. DS mentions it at least weekly (he’s pretty obsessed) and as a family we’ve discussed plans for a next trip when things are back to normal. (And that’s a big “when”!) DS’s girlfriend has come with us twice, and really taken to Disney, but it will be a first for DD’s boyfriend coming with us. It’s exciting. We send each other Disney things all the time just for fun, and we’ve got a group text going that includes everyone for planning for the next trip. (Hopefully we’re not scaring the boyfriend, lol.) I’m glad Jasper checked out ok. I agree it feels weird staying in the car and them taking them away from us. Not sure if I posted this here but Toto became sick this summer and they took him in. Not a few minutes later I had the vet standing at my window, which kind of startled me, saying, “You have a sick little boy here”. Ugh. His temp was 105. Ugh again. I cried when she walked away. (My little boy!!) Tick borne illness despite a tick collar. It is bad where we are, and we’ve gone back and forth between liquid, plls and collars for flea and tick prevention, yet this is the second time he’s gotten sick. I felt awful. But he did well on antibiotics and seems fine now. We were late getting his vaccines as we wanted to wait till he recovered from that.
@gwynne Good thoughts for your husband. It’s sweet the way you care for him and talk about him.
Snow? Wow.
@PollyannaMom I like that chart you posted the other day about the differences between a tantrum and a meltdown. I had never seen that before. I showed it to DD as she is starting to get to that age where she’s talking about a future family and she’s interested in things re children now. It made sense to her, too. So thanks!
Not a bit football fan at all. DH and DS watch it. We loved baseball. Our son played through college level so we spent a
lot of time on ballfields over the years with his playing on many different teams. DD’s boyfriend played, the same as DS, and still plays post-college, so we went to some of his games this year. We try to get to Fenway Park as often as we can for games (and a sausage, pepper and onion sub!), normally. So baseball is our sport.
