The adventures of Tiggerdad (A collection of camping locations, mishaps, reviews, alterations, food, and whatever else I can find)

Pathology report seems to indicate good news. No abnormal lymph nodes. Waiting to see if oncology feels we need to do anything different. She is on slow recovery. Lot of pain but this was expected. Since I was on vacation I've been spending time there helping nurses with her because the nursing shortage has us all in a bind.

Thank you all for the prayers.

I did do some work on camper. I had noticed the batteries were not holding charge. Finally figured out the batteries were good. It was the converter that had failed. It's output was near zero. My converter is part of the whole breaker panel, so an all in one deal.

That is the converter on the right with the fan.

The whole unit is around $500, but circuit panel was fine. I did some digging and found just the circuit board part that was the converter for about $230.

Install was about 15 minutes and back to running smooth again.

Never thought of that.

Looking to finally get back out and camping. Been away far too long. It's been 14 months since we last took the ole girl out. We going to Gulf State Park this coming weekend for 3 nights. Felt good to finally get things out again

Have a great trip, tiggerdad. If the weather cooperates, post a sunrise pic if possible but don't get up early just for that.

Sleep in - you're on vacation. 😴

Ed

PS - we're headed down there about a week after you.

Been a long time. Those who know me...

Thanks Ed

We had good trip down but as expected busy traffic. I'll admit, it's the worst I've ever seen Buccees as far as being packed. I was not able to get to a fuel pump. First time that has ever happened to me there. No big deal, had plenty of fuel to finish trip south.

We are on site 57. A new one to me.

It's right across from bath house #3

It's been about 18 months since I've been here. They have opened it up a lot. As always good huge campsite and level.

After arrival, and those of you who know my wife, we had an 18 month old itch that needed scratching.

Off to the Tanger Outlets...

Afterwards we ate at Gulf Island Grill, one of our regular eating places.
I had seafood pasta20230407_182205.jpg

DW had boiled shrimp
20230407_182210.jpg

Oldest DD had crab legs

Youngest DD had popcorn shrimp and already started mauling them before I could get a pic.

Sorry Ed, no sunrise pics this morning. Raining pretty heavy until about 9am. Maybe tomorrow morning.

More to come

After last night we realized a few things. First off DW and I left our pillows at home. Secondly, this queen mattress in the main bedroom has ended its life expectancy. Man, sore morning for sure. We slept in due to the rain. When we got up we went to Bed Bath and Beyond and DW picked out 4 pillows to remain in the camper. Oh, and since we were there the comforter needed replacing too? :rolleyes1

Right across from there is The Yard. Several of us Disers who have done Dismeets at GSP have made group trips here. We figured it would serve as lunch.

Cookie Dough Delicious

After that it was back to the camper so DW could redecorate the bed.

I have this vision that when Mr. and Mrs. @tiggerdad arrive at the Tanger Outlet for another visit, they are lovingly greeted by the staff. Sort of like this:

Oh, and not only did you need a new comforter for the bed, you prolly need a new throw for the sofa in the living room as well. :rolleyes1

Food pics look delicious.

Dinner was some place I had never been, but one of my patients told me about it. Reason I had never seen it was that it was hidden. Almost literally. Those of you familiar with hwy 59 into Gulf Shores know the bridge over the intercoastal. Well, tucked under that bridge is a small place called The Sloop. Little bar / sandwich place. Nothing special but different. Has the bar, outside eating as well.

Parking is, well... Under hwy 59

I had philly cheese steak as did DW.
20230408_165807.jpg

Oldest had double cheeseburger
20230408_165818.jpg

Certainly was good.

Alright, tried for sunrise on Easter Sunday but too cloudy.

It's 55 this morning and wind blowing on beach made for some cold toes. However, being first on beach gave us first dibs on seashells. Youngest DD went with me this morning.
20230409_063710.jpg

Have to say those two are about biggest shells I've found here just walking the beach.

The lake had a littlefog rolling off this morning

Today was good day for napping. Winds up and temp only got to about 60 so not fun outdoor enjoyment wise. At dinner about 430. The Steamer. It's right behind Souvenir City.
20230409_153251.jpg

DW and myself had 1/2# royal reds and 1/2# shrimp. Comes with green beans, potatoes, and sausage. I'll be honest, the shrimp was seasoned about right by my standards. However, the potatoes, beans, sausage, and corn had no flavor at all. Like they were just steamed in plain water with nothing else. In fact, the shrimp was hot and the other items were just luke warm.
20230409_154803.jpg

DD had the grilled shrimp. She pretty much gave same report. I'm pretty convinced we'll continue with Desotos just one block down which has always been good to us.
20230409_154752.jpg

To get the plain taste out of our mouths we went to Scoops for brownie delights which made up for the lack luster lunch.
20230409_182212.jpg

We head home in morning. Been good trip overall. Good to get out on road again. Got bigger plans coming up later in summer. Either another week here in July, or, if plans hold out, I'll take additional week and we'll try again for a trip to the Dakota's, Glacier, and Yellowstone. We'll see how it goes.

Agree with you on Desoto's vs The Steamer. I'll take Desoto's anyday.

Odd you are having cool weather. We were in the 70s up here today and it is going to be 70-80 the whole week. That is 5-10 degrees above normal for us. It looks like you have one more day of cool weather and then back into the 70s. Enjoy and keep posting when you have time.

I agree with this too. We tried Steamers in the past and came away unimpressed. There are many good options around (Desoto's, Original Oyster House, Mikee's) that I had no desire to try Steamers ever again.

Scoops has been our go-to ice cream stop in GS for at least 20 yrs (it feels like). Small town good.

Glad you got back down to the coast, @tiggerdad.
