The DisFort's Chit Chat Cafe

I am sure snow as far south as KS is not common. Friends I have in MN and MT mentioned snow, I asked about it being early and the answer was meh, not really.

We had lots of soaking rain on Sunday and overcast all day yesterday. Sunday I spent the day helping my friend network up his 100 year old church/home. We are putting in 1 outdoor AP, an AP in the basement and another on the main level. The walls being lat/plaster and super thick walls (the stone/concrete foundation is 24" thick, the brick and plaster over a foot. This will make sure they have good coverage though the whole property for cameras, computers, smart tvs, etc.

I even mowed again this week and surprised how much the grass grew. I think till we get our first good frost it will be needing to continue the weekly mowing. My wife said the dogs are happy but even last year I was done mowing by mid october last year.

We are all set for our last trip in November before winterizing. I cannot believe how slowly yet quickly this year went by.

We're supposed to get hit with a hurricane tomorrow. that's also not supposed to be a Halloween thing.

as long as it gets through quickly and doesn't cause a bunch of damage to screw up our weekend camping trip, I guess it will be ok

We are about 100 miles to the south of the snow line. 38 degrees and a lovely rain all day... until Thursday.

Looking good Kris. Hopefully it will be wrapped up soon.

That's the spirit! It should be nice behind the storm once it passes through.

Saturday for my first home game of the year shows "Mostly Sunny", 70/53F, and a 4% chance of rain.

Well, Teamubr, the Dodgers won the WS. I watched of few innings of most games but didn't sit through all of them. Being an Indians fan by birth, I was pulling for the American Leage TB team (unless it's the Yankees). Now only 3.5 months until pitchers/catchers report for spring training.

I am scheduling (in pencil) a Spring 2022 trip to Arizona to soak up some Cactus League games around where the Tribe trains. Will be taking DW and the Aliner and will take a southerly approach along I-10 (eating my way across Louisiana and back) and be in no hurry in either direction. Would like to also tag on maybe two hotel nights at the Grand Canyon (I have back-packed it but DW has never been).

i am so excited. The cabinets are out of my living room. The small ones for the vanity/sinks are in. They are working on the floor to ceiling ones for the wash and dryer. I think they may be very close to finishing today.

The shower door guys came today and measured but it will be at least 2 weeks to get the glass. they are swamped and behind. I think the counter guy comes friday to do the template.

That means this weekend Bert and I get to paint. One problem we need new baseboard and our current one can't be found so it will be new in the bathroom. We will have to paint walls (we are good at that), doors, baseboard and ceiling. We should be able to get everything done but the baseboards since those need to be purchases. Pictures will be coming after they leave today.

Let me know how many New Orleans restaurants to pick out. Though I’m sure you already have your favorites.

So we have cabinets but small problem, where the washer and dryer is going with the trim it’s 26.75 inches and my washer is 27 inches. Plus a new washer might be wider. Inside is 30 inches but not sure how the machines will get in. Will check with them tomorrow.

Kris, looks good, but make sure on the washer and dryer. Had a customer once that remodeled the basement 10 years before and wanted new washer and dryer, they only left a 26 inch space coming up her steps. She kept telling me how her contractor could get a 271/2 inch dryer down a 26 inch space.

My frame of reference, Pluto, is over 15 years old since I used to head to NOLA once a month (for about 4 years. Have fork, will travel). As I mentioned, loved staying at the Hotel Monteleone on Royal Street and the Westin on Canal Street (across from the casino). Although I remember my old haunts well, I am sure the landscape has changed so I will allow myself to be guided by someone with more recent knowledge. :rolleyes1

But I have to pull off the 2021 itinerary yet (which is in ink not pencil but the dates are not fixed for all). The 2021 DISMeet meets that criteria.

Pix look good, Kris, and you're definitely making progress. My hope is that there will be at least one shelf or cabinet for Bert tho.

<Will have to add more days to that AZ trip to fit in NOLA. >

Sad day at the team bradfield home, had to winterize today, too cold at night, blowing through propane...

@PaHunter exactly my concern. While i am using my current washer and dryer, the spec says 27 inches wide, I will need new ones. I was looking and generally the standard is 27 inches wide, but super large ones (thankfully i don't need that) can be wider. However the opening between the fancy trim pieces is 26.75 inches. The good thing is inside the cabinet it is 31 inches. They have on each side the fancy trim pieces that need to be removed and cut down. My concern is hoping they have enough space to hang the doors. I am hoping it will be relatively easy to fix. The next concern is the depth. Current one spec is 29 inches, here is where quite a few have gotten larger (i know mine are a good 8 to 10 years old). The cabinet to the wall is 31 inches so again not a lot of space. The one i would be looking to buy is 30.25 inches deep. I will be very tight. Yes I know i need space for a dryer vent but they did put a fancy thing in the back that can stick the vent in the wall some meaning you dont need as much space behind.

I hope it can easily be fixed.
