Noel: Have you heard anything on that concept of licking the banana slug? I figure you can snope it in the time it would take me to remember to snope it.

Of course now that I've said that I should just go do it, but alas....girl scout cookies call me (no not to eat) more cookie booths this weekend...the good news is Molly has already sold her 1000+ boxes so this is gravy selling no pressure.

talk with you all later tonight :flower3:

Congrats on the 1000 boxes!!!

Our DD did that a few years ago and was the top seller in her troup for 3 years in a row!!

Alas, her troup fell apart and she really misses it!!:sad2:

Karen

Not snope but here you go:

The next time you are tramping about in the forest (which we hope is at least once a day, if not more) and come across a banana slug, sneak up on it and give it a lick. Not just a touch with the tip of the tongue, but a full-on 'puppy dog happy to see ya' kind of lick.

As you watch the slug shrink away from the sudden stimuli, you will notice a most remarkable chemical reaction: your tongue goes numb. The slimy trail of slug ooze is really the only adaptation for slugs to have a chance of survival when lapped up by some human-looking puppy dog. Truly biochemistry at its finest.

Note - this does not hurt the slug. It only spooks it a little. In no way does this entry condone slug abuse. Of course, how would you feel if you were just scooting along the forest floor, minding your own little slug business, when... slurp!!!... you got licked? So don't do this too many times to one slug. Just use some common sense.

And there you have it. So, the next time you are in the wet 'n' wild forests of the Pacific Northwest, bring a friend. Tell them you want to conduct a 'serious biochemistry experiment', in which you need their full co-operation. The rest is up to you.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I would happily watch someone else lick a slug, however, my tongue does not come in contact with creatures from the forest floor, at least, not knowingly!!!:scared1:

I don't post much....no time....but I do check in every now and them. Can someone tell me what the 'teams' are??? I already have a fish extender, if that helps....
Called DCL today....still no cabin assignment and no idea when they may give us one. Can't get too excited till I know where we might be!!!

We had something similar. Jenna has been a little down of late with her interactions with her classmates. Actually has been rather blue. We called her teacher and asked if she had noticed anything. We had been concerned last year when she was in Kindergarten that she didn't seem to interact with her classmates as she does outside of school. So when the school approached us about placing her in a mulitage class this year (1st and 2nd grade) we thought it would be perfect for her in social skills. Multi-age in Arizona is geared to social interactions. Anyway, her teacher said she did have some thoughts and would we like to meet at young authors night (Jenna had written a book on tall tales) Thursday night. So we meet with her last night and the teacher says that Jenna is just much more mature and passing the 2nd grade students in her studies. Her suggestion was for Jenna to possibly skipped 2nd grade next year and enroll in 3rd grade! Total shock to us. We don't think we want to do this, because at some point all things are going to level out. We don't want her to be the 16 year old Senior and not be at the maturity level she needs to be at then. In a nutshell, it was nice to hear that our daughter is doing just fine.

We were approched with doing this with our DD in first grade as well. Very glad we didn't do it as she struggled later with her 4th grade math, mostly because she is TOO social!!!

Go with your gut, it usually works out for the best!!

We were at our High School Boy's basketball district semi-final game tonight. We were losing the whole game, and came back to win in a nail biter by 4 points.

You guys may remember my post about the seven foot kid we have (who is Greek) going to Ohio State next year. They projected that if there was an NBA draft for HS kids, he would probably go eighth in such a draft.

Anyway, there was an awesome story about him in the paper today:

http://www.cantonrep.com/index.php?Category=17&ID=340631&r=5&subCategoryID=29

If you want to read a feel good story about a great kid. Our community is very proud of him, and, he is a 4.0 student too.

Thanks for sharing about this young man. It was really uplifting. Lisa

EEEEeeeeewww! Now why in the world would somebody suggest something so slimy and disgusting to be a mascot! What happened to fierce or even cute! :sad2: Look out for those slugs...they might slime you! :rotfl2:

Bears are fierce and cute!!!pooh:

GO BEARS!!

Karen

We'll be training at Topsiders for the Palo Marathon. :lmao:

How could I not have realized that?! :confused3 That is the greatest news! :cool1: 2 years in a row spending mother's day with ::MinnieMo ::MickeyMo pluto: :donald: :goofy: (and without my MIL:cool1: :cool1: :dance3: :woohoo: shhhhhhh) Thank you for making my night with this news (although I am sure I am the last one to realize this)

Nope, you're not, I didn't realize it either! Whoo Hoo Mother's Day on Castaway Cay! We need a Shirt for this!:cool1:

... then meeting my daughter in law Jayne for a coffee and a natter.

Is it pronounced natter like "mad hatter" or natter like "see you later"??!?!

Your wish is my command!!

Dude! You so Win!

And there you have it. So, the next time you are in the wet 'n' wild forests of the Pacific Northwest, bring a friend. Tell them you want to conduct a 'serious biochemistry experiment', in which you need their full co-operation. The rest is up to you.

Don't you know the next time we go hiking, I'm using this line!:rotfl: :lmao:

The only Disney Marathon we are training for is the breakfast buffet Marathon at Topsiders!

:rotfl2:

:rotfl2:

No time to catch up with the 10 pages I haven't read yet, but I am signing out. I gotta finish packing for our vacation to Maui. We need to get up and outta here by about 6:30 tomorrow morning. I'll just have to try to catch up when I get back as DH would frown on DISing while on vacation. See you all in a week.

Enjoy your trip!

I saw this posted on the main board, pretty cute:

www.goodypak.com

I saw those too, dd will love them!

Me too!! First thing is getting the body weight down so I can build it again on the cruise!!

A woman after my own heart :rotfl: I too need to get my weight down for the cruise, and don´t mind gaining it back on the ship.

I think that DH is the most upset of the three of us. :worried:

He has never been to Europe and I have been to Spain (when I was 8) and Italy (I was 24) and he was truly looking forward to our going to France first and then to Spain and on the cruise.

I think that it would be better to go to Europe and see a specific country for a couple of weeks at a time and truly "drink" in that place, instead of trying to see so much in a short amount of time.

Europe is so diverse and there is so much history and archtecture; I think it would be better to enjoy one place at a time.;)

Planning the DL trip has made him happier, I think. He would travel every week if he could!! :goodvibes I am more of a home body!!:thumbsup2

I am feeling a bit under-the-weather, so I will be heading to bed early tonight, I may have picked up the flu that my DD had last week.

Hope you have a lovely day and enjoy your wonderful weather.

Karen

I agree with you, Europe is better done country by country, there is so much to see in each place.

Spain is my favorite among all those that I have visited. I might be biased since I still have family there, and speaking the same language always helps.

I think maybe I can do you one better . . .

University of Akron . . . our mascot is a Kangaroo - or in other words a "Zip". We are the Akron Zips. Our Mascot is Zippy the Kangaroo. He sure inspires fear into the hearts of his opponents! As you can see from this photo . . .

SASZUWJAPJJZOVG.20060629233959.jpg

:rotfl2:

All these mascot pictures have me :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2:

Anteater? Fearsome?? Sorry...just doesn't go. I do like Zippy's name. Instills a real sense of...dread?...fear?...no, happiness! But, kangaroos are dangerous with those feet! Anteater still wins, for me!:)

And, well, I'll concede that the castrated turkey is PROBABLY angry, he has a really silly name. And, he can always run away. What can an anteater do? Smack the opponents with his tongue?

Carolyn, getting just a little silly (must be the heat outside...)

:rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl:

Well, I am wondering who came up with the name of "Peter"...{I'll keep it clean}....maybe it's because it rhymes with anteater and it was the best they could do?!? Certainly not a fearsome name (Peter), that's for sure! So embarrassing....and during basketball games they would want you to call out "zot, zot" (you know, the sound an anteater makes when he's slurping an ant up). Please!

EEWWW I just imagine the crowd making that sound :rotfl2: :rotfl: :lmao: I don´t think that can really encourage a team!

To catch up on 30 more pages.

I updated DH on our latest DIS conversation on mascots, while we were at lunch, @ Panera, we both agreed our college mascots Santa Clara Univ Broncos and San Jose State Spartans were a bit QUOTE]

Who went to Santa Clara U???? You or your DH? I graduated in '90, my sisters in '88 & '92! Lisa

OK, not a morning person!! As you can see by my late night (early am) posts, I do the night!!! :cool2:

However, something could possibly be arranged in terms of food and coffee in the suite the last morning...:coffee:

And yes, we do feel very lucky!!!:cool1: We had a cat 3 for the EB repo and were spoiled beyond words!!!!:rolleyes1 Hard to travel any other way now...

Karen

I wasn't suggesting an early morning DIS meet:eek: What I thought I'd do is call room service the last morning and say "Yes, this is Karen in my big beautiful suite and I'd like some coffee and cereal for depart morning but please don't bother me with knocking on my door, just leave it outside" and then here CALMOM comes:rolleyes1 grabs her coffee:coffee: and then quickly walks away :tiptoe: Lisa

I guess Karen and I will have to jointly host a "goodbye" breakfast.

"Yes, room service. This is Noel and my big huge suite. Please bring me some croissants...but leave at the door" CAL MOM :tiptoe: once again

I think we will be up so we can just bring them inside but I will have to get a head count!! You can have ALL the coffee as I only drink tea!!

I am not a fan of rules so let's say guidelines - add or take away as you like:
FISH EXTENDER GUIDELINES
*Email Carol "Pahrumpgirl" if you need a fish extender. Cost $30.
*If you don't want to buy or make one, bring a christmas stocking or anything you can hang on the fish that can hold gifts
*You can bring gifts to your fellow DIS mates and not join a team.
*If you like to join a team (to save money or buy bigger gifts), email me Calmom
*Each indiviudal or team will make the decision as to who they will give fish mail to (whether they will chase people around or only deliver to fish extenders)
*If you would like to receive fish mail, you should have something hanging from your fish. Otherwise, you might be left out.
*You don't need to give mail to get mail.
*Oh yes, and this is fun!:goodvibes :scared:

Oh my, I'm just 4 more posts away from 500. I need to think of something really clever to say...but what, but what??? Should I post my 500 over on the EB thread as a sign of peace and friendship??? Oh should I save it and not post again...I hear my husband yelling "YES!" as he takes care of all 4 boys so I can catch up on the DIS boards. :lmao: Now he is changing the youngest's diaper....oh boy, glad that wasn't my 500 post. Don't want THAT to go down in history. The pressure, the pressure...

I agree, too! We usually stay a week at a time in one place, and take daytrips to neighboring cities. Last March we spent a week in Rome, and went on a daytrip to Naples and Pompeii.

Spain is a favorite of ours. We had a villa on the beach in Marbella. Love the tapas, the paella, and spectacular sunsets over the Mediterranean.

Crazy isn't it, we will have to meet in one of the other rooms as our cruise get closer.

I would think that it should be a list of people that have registered or who we know are going but this list would have to be confirmed at some point prior to sailing. I know of one family on the list who is not sailing. Cabin numbers have to be confirmed as well (although I know these can change at the last minute).

Quick post and haven't read everything - dental surgery yesterday and still not feeling that great.

Fiona

Hope your feeling better soon!!
