Official "Friends of the Fort" Weight Loss Group!

Unfortunately I am not going to the gym anymore. I had to stop going for financial reasons. Anyway, I've been looking into WLS and in preparation for it, the nutritionist put me on a low carb diet. So far I'm down 8 lbs!! :thumbsup2

Jen, what are you taking? Maybe that would be better for me than surgery.... :confused3

Gastric Bypass saved me from a heep of future trouble. I was athletic in HS and college and easily burned of the 5 meals a day I consumed. When I got side lined with a knee injury I did not change my eating habits and put a ton of weight on in a hurry. Fast foward 14 years, my hip started to collapse into itself (due to my weight and old injuries catching up to me) and I had to get my weight under control or I would be sitting in a wheel chair watching my kids and not be able to do the activities with them. After many different failed weight lose methods, 2 1/2 years ago I had gastric bypass done and lost over 200 pounds. I am half the person I used to be (literally) and am able to roll around in the grass with my 2, 5 and 7 y/o kids. It was one of the best decisions I ever made.

That is awesome wak648!!!!!!
I am also on meds.. from a weight loss clinic... they kill my appetite... better than breaking my elbows :lmao:

I am officially on my way to being thin. No beer for me for awhile.... No food either.

Kinda thread drift (sorry), but I was at the doctor's yesterday for bloodwork. While I was waiting for the tech (and waiting, and waiting), I was sitting right next to the scale. I usually don't take off my shoes when they weigh me (sneakers, usually). So I weighed myself. Then I took off my sneakers and hoodie. FOUR POUND difference! I didn't think it would be that much. They're just your normal sneakers and a 'Canes hoodie.

So there's a quick weight loss story right there! :goodvibes

Really....great thread. Bout time I jumped in and started doing the right thing too. :thumbsup2

Just got my surgery date. I'm having the vertical sleeve gastrectomy on August 25. Excited and nervous all at the same time.

When it's your choice to do this, it's a good thing. When diabetes forces you to do this, it sucks. (Oh, that's a different thread). I knew of & understood the word "moderation" since I was a child - but never put it into practice. I'm paying for it now. It's a PITA to hold yourself back when you are used to eating and drinking as you wish, but for your health's sake, do it now while your body can still forgive you. It's too late for me.

Wow Kelly, that is soon. I wish you the best with it. You know though, now I am going to have to get on the bandwagon. I don't want you showing me up on the cruise wearing your bikini!:thumbsup2

This was part my choice and part the dr's choice......

Ok...I figured it's time to post. I'm 4 weeks post-op. I'm down 25 lbs :woohoo: and I feel GREAT!!!!! I've been walking. Tuesday evening I walked 2.5 miles. Last night at my support group meeting I asked my Dr if I can start to REALLY exercise and he gave me the green light. My diabetes is resolved, and my blood pressure is totally normal! No more meds!!! I'm so happy. This is the BEST thing I've ever done for myself. My only regret is not doing it sooner!!!!

:yay: Oh Kelly, that's great! I'm so happy to hear you're feeling and doing so well! :wizard:

For those of you that had surgery... how overweight were you? How was the surgery? Did insurance pay for it? Which kind did you have? Thanks
