DaveInTN’s Off-Site, Off-Topic, Off His Rocker Trip Report (Updated w/FINAL DAY)

Cowboy bean stains?

Rusty!!

:lmao:

:rotfl: Partly.

Also endless hours of jumping, climbing, etc.....

Now, the TR...

Poor Judy Dench and Angelica Huston. Dissed on the Dis.

You're starving me to death with the food pics!

Love, Love, Love the pic of "Sad Eyes". Too cute for words.

Ms. White....I will now have to raise the level of punishment to be heaped upon her while I have her in the promised headlock.

That chicka's going down!

Great TR, and I meant that sincerely! :goodvibes

This is one of the best things about kids getting older. So many things make you wistful of the young, sweet, loving children you have for several years. But, when they start going off on their own and show you that you've done a few things right by working well together, not taking advantage of you, etc., it's really special. (And, it makes them feel awesome too...)

Love it!
Sometimes it's tough to have them grow up. But it is beautiful to see it unfold. And they are best friends, too!

Poor Judy Dench and Angelica Huston. Dissed on the Dis.

Yeah, I guess I have nothing in particular against Angelica. Just don't see her as "queen" material. But old Judi annoys me.

Ms. White....I will now have to raise the level of punishment to be heaped upon her while I have her in the promised headlock.

That chicka's going down!

I'm counting on you to deliver justice here.

Great TR, and I meant that sincerely! :goodvibes

Thank you! It's almost over.

Great TR!! Beautiful family! I couldn't help but laugh at the girls viking pic, it looks like your DD is "mining for gold" in the trolls nose with her horn!:rotfl2:

DSCF3894.jpg

That picture is Priceless!! :littleangel:
With those eyes and that face, I bet she pretty much gets what she wants.
You need to blow it up and frame it (then when she starts dating, show it to her boyfriends to warn them, LOL). It really is a wonderful shot.

Loving the TR!!

LOL! I hadn't even noticed that.

Yeah, that'll scare the boys off. "If she doesn't get what she wants, watch out!"

one is of Sonya's youngest daughter when she caught a nice big catfish and looked to be squeeling with glee,,

Friday, October 22nd

Our last day.

Those words always kinda stink.

But there was no getting around the fact that, bright and early the next morning, we’d be in the car heading north.

But this wasn’t just ANY final day at Disney. This was DD’s 13th birthday!!! :cheer2:

And we had a great final day planned. So let’s get to it.

We had a 9am breakfast ADR at Kona Café…so around 8:00 we headed out the door to the Polynesian.

Our wait was only about 3 or 4 minutes, and we were taken to a great table.

DSCF3919.jpg

DSCF3921.jpg

We had a SUPER waiter…wish I could remember his name.

DW and I both ordered the Tonga Toast, and of course coffee. :woohoo:

DSCF3924.jpg

DSCF3925.jpg

The birthday girl and DD14 both got French toast, and the younger ones got Mickey pancakes.

DSCF3926.jpg

After we were done eating, our waiter came and surprised us with this for DD13. :bday:

DSCF3927.jpg

DSCF3928.jpg

And he did it quietly…like a guy that knows how a 13 year old girl operates. I don’t know about everyone’s kids, but our daughter does NOT like attention. And he didn’t bring everyone over to sing…he just put it in front of her and said “Happy Birthday”. We "whispered" singing Happy Birthday to her, and she devoured her cupcake. It was very cool.

We then hopped the monorail to spend the rest of the morning at the MK. When we arrived, we hopped the train for Frontierland to get BTMRR fastpasses AGAIN.

DSCF3931.jpg

We then made our way to Fantasyland and rode Small World.

DSCF3933.jpg

It had just reopened 2 days earlier from being closed for several wonderful, headache-free weeks. I don’t know if they made many changes to the ride itself (nothing notable to me), but they did completely re-do the wait queue area. They reversed the entrance and exit areas, so that there is more inside area to wait in line. You now cross over the ride and down the ramp to board…where you used to exit that way. Anyways, for anyone interested, here are a couple of pics of the new setup. And if you are one that takes any necessary steps to avoid this ride, you can at least view the pics to determine your nearest escape route.

DSCF3937.jpg

DSCF3938.jpg

We then watched Philharmagic, and rode the carousel.

DSCF3941.jpg

DSCF3942.jpg

And then made our way back through Frontierland

DSCF3945.jpg

DSCF3946.jpg

And rode BTMRR and Splash Mountain. Those were a blast as always. Then we rode Pirates, and headed toward the exit. We again rode the monorail back to the Poly.

DSCF3947.jpg

DSCF3948.jpg

DSCF3949.jpg

Back at the Poly, we tried on funny hats.

DSCF3952.jpg

And then we headed “home” to rest for our birthday evening….which is coming up in the FINAL installment of this report.

What a nice breakfast at Kona (I am so mad we missed this) and beautiful morning at the MK. I love this picture:

I so did NOT miss It's a Small World being closed when we were there. ;)

Our last day.

Yep, those words stink, but I think your last sentence stinks even more... :sad1:

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

I’ll say it again, this is one great TR.

Looks like some great family memories were made.

Dave you and Tony (of YNOT) have some excellent

Photography skills. Really enjoyed the TR thanks.

I know! Although I do LOVE watching my DD4 as we ride it. She is enthralled. And so i get a great deal of enjoyment out of that.

But that song....

Yep, those words stink, but I think your last sentence stinks even more... :sad1:

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

Tis true Lisa. The finale is coming up later.

Thanks KFDH! I'm glad you've enjoyed my trip report. And while I appreciate the comment, I in no way see myself in anywhere the same league as Tony. His pictures are pure art. :worship: I just like to randomly push the button on my cheap digital camera.

But I'm glad you enjoy them! :thumbsup2

Friday, October 22nd

Our last day.

Those words always kinda stink.

I know what you mean. On one of my recent trips to WDW, I was kind of quiet during the drive. My wife finally asked me what was going on, tired of driving, headache, etc.. I told her, that the only thing I disliked about driving to WDW, was knowing that I would have to leave & come back home.

Friday, October 22nd (cont)

Around mid-afternoon, we drove to Epcot for dinner. I had made a reservation at Via Napoli, the relatively new pizza place at the Italy pavilion, for DD’s birthday dinner. :woohoo:

This is a really beautiful restaurant!

DSCF3959.jpg

DSCF3957.jpg

DSCF3958.jpg

We got a nice table near the window, and ordered our starters…the Arancini - Fried saffron risotto balls filled with mozzarella and meat ragu.

DSCF3955.jpg

These were good…but to be honest didn’t blow me away. They had a nice flavor, but it was a much milder flavor than I expected.

We also ordered a house salad. This was nice.

DSCF3954.jpg

And DW enjoyed some sort of peach-wine drink. She said it was good.

DSCF3956.jpg

For dinner, we got two pizzas. We ordered the ½ meter pepperoni pizza.

DSCF3962.jpg

And we also ordered an individual sized Pizza Margherita.

DSCF3960.jpg

Both pizzas were EXCELLENT. The individual pizza was enough to feed 2 people, and the margherita was very nice. The pepperoni pizza was ridiculously good. Nice spicy pepperoni, and a very thin and delicious crust out of the wood fired ovens. And the ½ meter size is huge!

DD4 really enjoyed the pizza.

DSCF3965.jpg

DSCF3967.jpg

We will definitely come here again.

But after our dinner was finished, we had an “issue”.

We noticed our waitress approaching, accompanied by 2 of her colleagues. And they were carrying this.

DSCF3966.jpg

Now, I had noted on the reservation that this was DD’s birthday. But we didn’t order a special cake or anything (at least not from Via Napoli…stay tuned). And we of course didn’t ask for them to sing. But here they came!

They sang what I can only assume was Happy Birthday in Italian. It was pretty cool if you ask me. But DD was mortified! She survived though, and although she’d never admit it, I bet she enjoyed it somewhat. I mean, from what I was told, one of the guys singing was quite the dish. Something about smouldering eyes? Whatever. But in any case, it happened, and I thought it was great.

So, we left Via Napoli and headed toward the International Gateway. The plan was now to walk to the Boardwalk…and specifically, our destination was the Boardwalk Bakery.

On the way, we passed that freaky cat that always hangs out near France. She looked lonely, so we stopped to say hello.

DSCF3968.jpg

I swear that cat always smells like cigarettes and kitty litter.

And then we walked to the Boardwalk. We did a bit of shopping, and then found a table near the water. I went into the bakery to get what I had ordered several days before…a Mickey Cake!

DSCF3969.jpg

DSCF3972.jpg

DSCF3974.jpg

The cake was a white cake, with chocolate genache and a white chocolate Mickey face. The genache was good, and the cake looked just like I wanted. Overall though, I thought the cake itself was quite dry. Not as good as I had hoped…although DD loved it. And that’s the most important thing. We’ve never been away from home for one of our kids’ birthdays before, so we wanted to do a special cake. This fit the bill. :thumbsup2

And after that, we walked all the way back through Epcot to the car and drove back to the house to finish packing and preparing for our morning departure. We hit the road the next morning around 6:15, and had an uneventful journey home. We hit It’s Not Cindy’s parent’s house for dinner at 4:30 CT…and were home safely about 15 minutes after finishing our dinner with them.

An uneventful drive doesn’t make for good trip report material…but it’s exactly how I wanted it to go and I thank God for it. :littleangel:

And that’s that…our unplanned, last minute, off-site non-Fort trip. It’ll be a while before we can return to the Fort…so this trip will hopefully hold us over until that time.

I’d like to leave you all back precisely where this trip report began. With, as ftwildernessguy so eloquently stated in post #2, “a couple lousy pictures of the back of your van”.

DSCF3976.jpg

DSCF3977.jpg

And why have I posted these again?

Because those two pictures embody what this is all about.

Fort Fiends and Musket Mickey.

Sure, my family and I hit all the parks, including the 5th theme park, we ate so much we could have fueled our van all the way on bottled Ohhhh-HANA, we had a great time with each other and we made memories that we will all cherish forever. But what moment on the trip ranks right up there for me? Our visit with Debbie and Donnie…two wonderful Fiends that I am blessed to call friends. And we got together on the best porch in all of America. Yeah, Disney is great, but I can’t see myself wanting to return year after year to stay at some hotel and do parks from morning to night. After now staying off-site, away from the Fort, I really do feel we have something different. We are so lucky to have the Fort, but more importantly, we are blessed to have each other.

Long live the Fort Fiends, and long live Musket Mickey!

That pizza at Via Napoli is OMG good! Fantastic!

Thanks for sharing your beautiful family's adventures.

DSCF3875.jpg

For some reason, I started craving Long John Silver's when I saw this a little earlier. So guess what we had for supper?:rolleyes1

Thanks for sharing, Dave. As usual, your TR has sustained me since you started it. What ever will I do with myself now?

Darn you Dave!!! Now you've gone and made me cry!

I know just what you mean, as the highlight of my trip was meeting all of the wonderful people from the Dis Boards as well. That is a great experience that some on this board will never have or understand and it is their loss. As we make plans for next year I am hoping that I will have the opportunity to meet even more folks on that trip than we did on this one and that I will have the opportunity to meet up again with the ones that I met this year! :thumbsup2

Another great report Dave and I'm not even mad at you anymore for not telling us where you were going! (We were worried sick you know!) ;)

...Long live the Fort Fiends, and long live Musket Mickey!

Well said Dave!! We're hoping to finally get to meet some Fiends in person in a little less than 2 weeks :-)yay:)

Thanks for a super TR!! :goodvibes
