Nothing A Little Sangria Can't Fix! A Thanksgiving 2016 Dining Report update 3/21 MK eats

You ordered what I wanted at Three Kings! While I am so happy that the tamale was good, I'm super sad that I missed out on it!! I'm also sad the three king's bread there wasn't great, because I agree about how pretty it is (It's why I wanted it, too!)

Oooh, I wanted that fondue, too, but we were always near that booth when we'd just eaten. I'm always so nervous about ordering chocolate cake because it is one food I'm really, really picky about. It has to actually be gooey and taste like chocolate. Most chocolate cake just tastes brown to me. Who wants to eat brown?? The sachertorte looks like it has some fudginess to it, and the fruit filling might make it moist, so I think I would like it!

Aww...RIP, chocolate tea shake thing :charac2:

Starting at the bottom and going clockwise: Shredded Beef Tamale with Avocado Creme and Cilantro Rice (mine),

Ooo I wanted to try that!

I posted this in my TR but someone else was looking to share Steve's pork:
:rotfl:

Cheese Fondue in a Bread Bowl wit Fresh Steamed Baby Vegetables and Marbled Potatoes
And that!

Sachertorte: Chocolate Cake with Apricot Jam and Dark Chocolate Glaze, or as Ricky called it the best chocolate cake he's ever had. He didn't even complain about the apricot filling and he does not eat cake with fruit filling. I almost got another piece but I was full as was everyone else. I was sad.
And that! Yum!

Cheese Fondue in a Bread Bowl wit Fresh Steamed Baby Vegetables and Marbled Potatoes
This looks yummy and like something I would eat!

I have to say I think for every ounce of cheese they put in the fondue, they put like 6 ounces of beer :D because nobody was going to argue whether or not this was BEER cheese fondue! Ricky recognized the beer taste, but Chris just said something didn't taste like cheese but he liked it.
:rotfl2:

The rest of our time in WS was spent listening to the holiday storytellers, introducing the boys to the VoL, and meeting new friends when we caught up with Tammy,@wdwnut61 here on the Dis and her daughter Kathy:
Yay for another DIS meet!!:thumbsup2

Regardless my tamale was delicious, even the cilantro rice and I'm not a fan of cilantro at all but it wasn't overpowering. The tamale itself was nice and soft and the meat had so much flavor. I couldn't get enough of the avocado creme either, there was a decent amount but I could have used more.
That Tamale looks relish! How can you not like Cilantro?!! I love the stuff!

est way I can think to describe it. Very sweet. The "bread", which was more cake-like, was bland to me. The outside was hard and while the inside was fairly softer it didn't have much taste, so I didn't waste calories on it. Everyone took a small bite and agree with me.
I don't know if I have ever really had 3 Kings bread that wasn't kind of dry and tasteless. Mind you, I not really in the right area of the country for fresh 3 kings bread. but I feel like a lot of times, it just realizes on the frosting.

Seriously, that bird looks like it is going to pounce any second now!

That looks amazing! We are suckers for Cheese Fondue!

I can't believe your trip is only 3 weeks away now. So exciting!!!! Putting in my requirement for lots of food porn now :-)

Loving all your holiday food. I'm not sure if I'd like the bigger portions or not, just because I like to try so many things. Speaking of trying I could totally devour some of that fondue right about now. Looks amazing. And that chocolate cake!!!! YUM. One of these days I'll get my **** down there at holiday time.

And great job boozing it up :drinking1 One of the many reasons we get along so well :-)

What a lovely day at Epcot. I have definitley got to get on board with those Grey Goose slushies!!
You do!! Put it on your list for your next trip!

You ordered what I wanted at Three Kings! While I am so happy that the tamale was good, I'm super sad that I missed out on it!! I'm also sad the three king's bread there wasn't great, because I agree about how pretty it is (It's why I wanted it, too!)
The Three Kings Bread is definitely something that looked better than it tasted unfortunately. However I've never had it before so I don't actually know if it was good and just supposed to taste that way??

Most chocolate cake just tastes brown to me. Who wants to eat brown?? The sachertorte looks like it has some fudginess to it, and the fruit filling might make it moist, so I think I would like it!
It was fudgy and moist  at least it seemed that way from the teeny tiny taste Ricky allowed me lol.

This looks yummy and like something I would eat!
Right?? Anytime bread and cheese are together it's a go for me!

Oh heck yes! Cute pic of the two of you with your delicious beverages :) I also love your Stitch shirt! Sounds like you guys had a fun day.
Thank you! Stitch shirt is from Kohl's, they usually have such cute shirts there. It really was a great day!

How can you not like Cilantro?!! I love the stuff!
You know why? It tastes like soap to me :crazy2: I always thought it hadn't been washed properly lol, until I read that like 50% of the population have a tastebud issue that causes them to taste soap when they eat cilantro. So I'm not crazy but I don't like cilantro and it's unfortunate because it's in so many yummy dishes :(

I don't know if I have ever really had 3 Kings bread that wasn't kind of dry and tasteless. Mind you, I not really in the right area of the country for fresh 3 kings bread. but I feel like a lot of times, it just realizes on the frosting.
Well if you aren't in the right part of the country for it then I'm not either, since we're both in the Northeast! I've never had it before so even though I didn't like it I really can't say if it was good or not because I have nothing to judge it by.

Seriously, that bird looks like it is going to pounce any second now!
That's what I thought

I can't believe your trip is only 3 weeks away now. So exciting!!!! Putting in my requirement for lots of food porn now :-)
Requirement noted :thumbsup2 and I believe it can be fulfilled, no problem

Loving all your holiday food. I'm not sure if I'd like the bigger portions or not, just because I like to try so many things.
That's why I was a bit disappointed with the portion size. There were a few more booths I wanted to try but I was just too full. We could have cancelled Il Mulino but that was NOT happening!

One of these days I'll get my **** down there at holiday time.
You're sooooooo close!!

And great job boozing it up :drinking1 One of the many reasons we get along so well :-)

I aim to impress! Plus I'm a good friend

It's def something for us "northerns" need to make at home, not buy! I always get suckered into the ones at the grocery store... not yummy. Yours did look yummy! They all do! maybe that is how they are to be?!?

Requirement noted :thumbsup2 and I believe it can be fulfilled, no problem
I will live vicariously through your next trip report for sure! And look forward to lots of pics, as well!

I'm back! I'm trying to finish this puppy up before Steve and I leave for the first of our 2 F&G trips three weeks from today :goodvibes

Wooooooo!!! :cool1::cool1::cool1:

I did not take pictures, I'm sorry, nor did I take pictures of the 2nd sandwich we had to get him after he dropped the first one, after taking just one bite.

:rotfl:Poor Ricky!

This looks pretty awesome!! I love that Chris just knew he tasted something other than cheese :rotfl: Interesting pairing w/ the veggies and potatoes, too.

I really like this booklet, and don't remember it from the Flower & garden festival! Very cool.

I'm not a fan of cilantro at all but it wasn't overpowering.

Oh no you're one of those! LOL

This is the one thing on the holiday menus that REALLY excited me , but alas I never did get to have it. Looking at this, I should do a cheese fondue dinner at home though!

Sachertorte: Chocolate Cake with Apricot Jam and Dark Chocolate Glaze

This looks and sounds SO good. I love apricot!

MMMM I have yet to find something too spicy for me, I'll have to look for these!! It's hard to tell, are they like chips in the shape of fries?

This looks pretty awesome!! I love that Chris just knew he tasted something other than cheese :rotfl: Interesting pairing w/ the veggies and potatoes, too.
The potatoes were really delicious and went so well with the cheese fondue, just wish I got more than half of one  But that's what happens when you travel with boys who eat all the time!

I really like this booklet, and don't remember it from the Flower & garden festival! Very cool.
I can't remember if they had booklets like that at F&G either, but we haven't been since 2015. I'll find out in 17 days :goodvibes
Oh no you're one of those! LOL

'
That reminds me of all the fondue parties my parents used to have when I was little. They'd have like, 4 or 5 fondue pots, melt chocolate, cheese, and I don't know what else, then have a bunch of couples over and they'd all sit on the floor around these fondue pots in the middle. Oh, and there was drinking..............it was the 70's :hippie:

MMMM I have yet to find something too spicy for me, I'll have to look for these!! It's hard to tell, are they like chips in the shape of fries?
Exactly :thumbsup2 Look like fries, taste like chips. Chris is the same way with not finding anything too spicy for him. Put them on your list for your next trip!

This is a page that showed some of the offerings:

Yum...lots of goodlooking food items!

my tamale was delicious
It looks so good!

Since Steve and I weren't big fans of the beer, we went over to France after finishing our food so we could grab some old favorites:

I know some of you can recite this with me: grey goose slush=sunshine in a glass
On the list! I've had it before, but don;t they have a lemon one and an orange one...or am I not remembering correctly?

Cheese Fondue in a Bread Bowl
This is right up my alley!

This next tasty item I pretty much only know was tasty because Ricky let me lick the fork. Who was paying for all this, anyway???

l
Sachertorte: Chocolate Cake with Apricot Jam and Dark Chocolate Glaze, or as Ricky called it the best chocolate cake he's ever had.
I noticed this from the pictures above. To die for! I cannot believe that Ricky didn't share!

Chocolate Apple Shake featuring Twinings Winter Spice Tea (non-alcoholic)
Looks good but definitely doesn't sound good.

Tip: if you have the desire to see what it would be like swallow fire, go ahead an try these! Ricky hates spicy, Steve sometimes likes spicy, I love spicy, and Chris REALLY LOVES spicy, so he ate the whole bag. I tried one and could have used like, 5 grey goose slushes to cool my mouth off!
Oh my. Not for me thanks! I live a little spicy, but that's about it.

we were taking the boys to Il Mulino
Looking forward to reading about it!

You're allowed, as long as you keep us up to date on the wedding plans :bride:

I haven't even been doing that lately...

I swear it's the best TS dessert on property! Maybe a nice dinner when your whole family is there for the wedding?

Our families will freak over the cost of food at Disney, so we're trying to stay away from signature restaurants :(

You really should. I do like guacamole and avocado but it really doesn't taste like either IMO. It's definitely sweeter than I thought it would be.

Well, I do love sweet drinks...

Lol it's what he likes! At home we'll often get a pie with onions and peppers; he just left off the peppers.

Such a strange pizza order haha. I'm very adamant that the only thing that belongs on pizza is meat...

Yup, for now it's all I like too because it's sweet :) A friend told me to try Reisling which I guess can also be sweet so I've tried a couple, but haven't found one yet that is sweet enough!

I've found a few Reislings I like, but none as much as moscato. My personal favourite moscato is Two Oceans, it's a South African brand.

IDK? Well, have you ever heard of a wedge salad? Those don't have the lettuce cut or chopped up, but rather a "wedge" or chunk of lettuce. This wasn't described as such but maybe that's what they were going for.... It's really just another way to serve a salad. Not my favorite as I prefer my lettuce delivered to me ready to go into my mouth!

This sounds like way too much work!

Now for your new reviews:

The dessert party looked like fun! We did the Star Wars one, and I loved it! Based on the descriptions, I'd say the drinks at the Star Wars one were much better than the options you had though.

That cheese fondue in a bread bowl looks amazing! Eventually I'll make it to Disney when there's food booths at Epcot...

Our magic bands for our trip in 15 days finally came! They're the 2.0 version and while I didn't think I'd have a problem with them (and I really don't), I think they look fine in the box but kind of funny on my wrist. It feels the same in weight and when I put it on, but it just doesn't.......sit right? It sticks out too far? IDK, it might be because I wear so many bracelets and this is going to interfere with them more than the old style. Whatever, I don't care because in just about 2 weeks I'll be in my happy place pixiedust:

Il Mulino

Steve and I "discovered" Il Mulino last August when we were on a kid-free trip and I was trying to find some new places to eat. Bottom line it was the best meal of that trip and we were both dying to return. At that time we sent Ricky a picture of Steve's entree and he was drooling over it so we knew he'd love it; Chris isn't a big lover of Italian food which leads us to often tell him he's adopted but they have pizza so he'd be ok too. Originally I had Il Mulino for Monday night but when Ricky and Steve found out they'd only be down for half the trip, this is the one meal Steve wanted me to move.

Our ADR was for 6:30 and after spending a little bit of time in the room packing and chilling out, we headed over to the Swan around 6. I took this picture of the Beach Club as we walked over because I liked the sky:

We arrived early and were also seated a few minutes early. Right away we were brought the same amuse bouche we were given in August which was A-ok with me:

Marinated eggplant and salami.
The first time we went I ate almost all the eggplant but stopped myself because I didn't want to fill up. This time? I ate it all ::yes:: I'm not even a big eggplant lover but the flavor in this is incredible. It's so tender and there's no skin which I love-that there's no skin, I don't love the skin. The meat was ok, an Italian salami but not the best I've had. Steve liked it but the boys left this whole plate alone.

There was no way we weren't getting appetizers here! Chris ordered the Calamari Fritti:

Lightly fried calamari with a spicy marinara sauce.

This is his new "thing" and pretty much the only seafood he'll eat so he was excited it was on the menu. However he only eats the rings and as you can see, this wasn't a plate full of rings. No problem as Steve was more than willing to help eat the tentacles which gross Chris out. They gross me out, too. Little story, we used to spend every Christmas Eve at my cousin Bonnie's house and have the typical Italian Feast of the Seven Fishes, which I never ate. Pasta for me. My aunts and uncles tried constantly to get me to try fish. One year, when I was 10, Bonnie offered to make me a chocolate milkshake which was strange but I said yes. It was delicious and a bit chunky. After I drank about half of it I found out the chunks were actually chunks of squid :crazy2::crazy2: :faint: Needless to say I haven't let any part of an octopus near my mouth since.
Back to the calamari: you know I'm bad at describing the food with more than basic adjectives but the guys felt this was very good, not too chewy which is sometimes a complaint of Chris's. Steve will eat chewy but prefers that it's not.

Not to be left out of the fun, Steve and I got the Arancini:

Italian Rice Balls over Spicy Marinara Sauce

These are delicious, just as good as the Arancini at Citricos which we've gotten on both our visits there. Plus the sauce is perfect, which for me means not too tomato-tasting and for being billed as spicy it really wasn't. Ricky tried the calamari and also ate like 2 A
rancini. Next trip if this kid wants something I'm ordering, he's getting is own!!!
Oh, and here's the bread you get:

It's a mix of crusty fresh Italian bread and focaccia bread which is soft with a little bit of onion on the top.

Wait! Let's not forget my wine! Last August I had the best Moscato here and unfortunately I can't find it at home. I've found similar wines though, but this is still my favorite:
Marco Negri, Moscato D'Asti

It's fizzy! It's bubbly! I love it!!

I have no idea what Steve got to drink since I didn't write it down. My phone was dying and a friend was texting me about her upcoming Disney trip over Christmas week :scared1: She was staying off-site and was asking me IF SHE SHOULD DO THESE THINGS CALLED FASTPASSES  So while I was eating and trying to take notes I was also trying not to keel over or call her and start yelling.

Let me tell you guys one thing: Il Mulino is ice cold inside. Freezing. We froze in August and we froze again in Nov. The lobby was pretty chilly too and while it was kind of a chilly night it wasn't cold, but it felt like Snow Miser's cave in there both times. So a little PSA: if you go there, bring a sweater!

Service here is wonderful and they space your food out perfectly, so we'd had some time to digest our apps including the approx. 1.3 bites of arancini I got by the time they brought or entrees. I got the same thing I did in August because it tasted like an angel had come down and made me the perfect dish.
Rigatoni Con Funghi:

Rigatoni with Wild Mushrooms, Spicy Cherry Peppers, Garlic and Truffle Oil

This is my picture from August because I think I dived into this immediately upon our server setting it down in front of me. OMG. If you read my last dining report you know I don't like mushrooms so it was weird I ordered this last time but something about it sounded so............good. And it IS. Truthfully I don't actually eat the mushrooms but I enjoy the light flavor they lend to the dish and the truffle oil - who doesn't love truffle oil?? The cherry peppers add a decent amount of heat but it all meshes together so nicely. And just for Kari @kastoney I asked if you can get it with extra extra mushrooms and they said of course! So my friend, you'll be all set if you go back :rotfl2:
Last time we came Steve saw someone at the bar eating a monstrous piece of something smothered in sauce and cheese and asked what it was because he has no shame when it comes to food; it ended up being their gigantor chicken parm which is one of Ricky's favorites. We sent him a picture and he'd been dreaming of it since (because that's all 14 yo boys dream about right? Is food? Please? :scared:) so that's what he got.

Pollo Parmigiana:

Pounded, Breaded Chicken Breast Served With Fresh Tomato Sauce and Italian Cheese.

He tried his best to finish it but left about 5 bites, God bless him. Do you see the size of this? It fills the whole plate! I tried a spoonful of the sauce since this isn't "spicy" and it did taste a tiny bit different than the sauce that came with the arancini but not by much. Ricky was happy with his choice and has requested we return on future trips.

HOWEVER
Somebody else wasn't happy with their dish and has no plans to return. It's someone I haven't mentioned yet who might order something like this:

Pepperoni Pizza

Oh, Chris. My baby. My angel. I do love him so, so much. There was corn meal on the bottom of the crust so this was a no-go. He ate like, a piece and a half and then ate the cheese off some more and was done. Steve tried it and said it tasted great, much, much more like pizza should, like NY pizza :D, better than Via Napoli as opposed to your basic and usually nasty Disney pizza. We like a thin crust and while this wasn't what we'd call thin it wasn't thick and had good flavor. The sauce was the same as on Ricky's chicken. A couple years ago when we went to Universal Chris got a kids pizza at Confisco's and had the same problem with the cornmeal but it was pouring off the pizza like dandruff. Here it wasn't too much but he noticed it and that was the end.
Let's get back to people enjoying food! Last time for a side Steve ordered the broccoli rabe because he loves his rabes, so he got it again and you can see it in this photo with his entree:

Gamberi Francese:

Jumbo Shrimp Egg Battered and Sauteed, Served with White Wine Lemon Sauce

It's only 4 shrimp but they were huge and he thoroughly enjoyed this. the francese-like sauce was not too lemony and had a nice, light wine taste, the breading wasn't heavy at all. Between the shrimp and the broccoli rabe he had a nice filling meal.
With 3/4 of us extremely satisfied with our meals, our server asked about dessert. Sadly as much as on our last visit I fell in love with their flourless chocolate cake, we were all too full at this point. I did get a cappuccino since icebergs were forming around us:

And they also came to the table and poured us 2 glasses of their complimentary limoncello:

Does anyone like limoncello? Show of hands :wave2: I only ask because I love me some alcohol but this, no! Our Aug. visit here was the first time I had it; tried it again this time around to see if I'd matured at all (nope). Steve drinks a tiny bit more than I do of it but he isn't a fan, either. It's so strong and kind of, IDK, sharp tasting to me? Goes down hard :rolleyes1

We left happy for another great Il Mulino meal and glad Ricky added another "to do" restaurant to his list, but sad it was our last night of vacation. We exited the Swan and saw the festivities the Swalphin puts on this time of year which began tonight. These included a food truck, some giveaways and craft tables set up for kids. Oh! And surfin' Santa and Mrs. Claus were there, too:

Santa is chill but Mrs. Claus looks like she's searching for a child to eat for dinner lol. Once back at the Beach Club we weren't ready for the night to end, so the boys checked out the arcade. It's one of the bigger ones we've seen at a Disney resort along with the one at AKL. The boys also noticed that the Beaches and Cream takeout window was located in there, and after the very long walk from the Swan to BC they were both ready for ice cream. I don't have pictures of what they ordered b/c when they decided to get ice cream from there, Steve suggested he and I give them $$ and run-------over to Ample Hills Creamery on the other side of the BW. I was very open to this since I didn't try their ice cream the other night when Steve and Ricky did.
My note taking skill really went downhill these last couple days as I have no record of what Steve got. I know I got the Ooey Gooey Buttercake and Dark Chocolate:

It very good. Very creamy. However, and I said this in my TR and kind of said this earlier in this report when I reviewed Ricky and Steve's visit, I wouldn't make a special visit here if I weren't staying at an Epcot resort. I also believe I prefer Beaches and Cream. I know their ice cream is Edy's but I love the No Way Jose and all the other sundaes and toppings they offer. Nothing was wrong with Ample Hills though! If you want to try "different" flavors it's a good place to go. I was looking at their NY location menu online and there are a couple flavors there that I'd love to try that they don't have in Orlando: The Raw Deal and Salted Crack Caramel.

We collected the boys eventually and went back to the room to finish packing. No worries though, our plane wasn't leaving until almost 9pm the next night so we still had a full Disney day to go!

UP NEXT: EATING AROUND THE MAGIC KINGDOM

On the list! I've had it before, but don;t they have a lemon one and an orange one...or am I not remembering correctly?
Yes! The orange one is a Grand Marnier slush. I've never had it but hear it's really good, just hard for me not to get the Grey Goose lol

I noticed this from the pictures above. To die for! I cannot believe that Ricky didn't share!
Wait until your boys get older. Less snacks for you :rotfl2:
I haven't even been doing that lately...
I know :( I've been meaning to message you to tell you how sorry I am for your loss Fallon. I know your grandmother was sick for awhile, I won't say what lots of people have probably been saying about it being for the best and her being in a better place right now b/c that doesn't necessarily make it better. I've had you in my thoughts

Our families will freak over the cost of food at Disney, so we're trying to stay away from signature restaurants :(
I get it! I usually tell my clients about the signatures but never suggest them right away. I think those are more for people who enjoy eating fancy on a regular basis or who have been to Disney multiple times.

I've found a few Reislings I like, but none as much as moscato. My personal favourite moscato is Two Oceans, it's a South African brand.
My friend told me to try Reisling. I've tried a couple but so far haven't found one I like. I'll have to look for the Two Oceans!

The dessert party looked like fun! We did the Star Wars one, and I loved it! Based on the descriptions, I'd say the drinks at the Star Wars one were much better than the options you had though.
Yes I read about the drink options at the SW party and I agree, those look much better.

I don't really have a problem with how they look either, but I wasn't crazy about the fit. I don't know if I'll use mine for May though (we ordered them early to get the AP slider, but the slider never came oh well). I also got a hitchhiking ghost 1.0 version one recently so I'm thinking of using that.

We do the Feast of Seven Fishes too. I dislike seafood so I always have to wait to eat. :crazy2: That's so gross, I can't believe someone would do that even if you were trying to get a kid to try something new.

Italian Rice Balls over Spicy Marinara Sauce

:p

Pollo Parmigiana:

Pounded, Breaded Chicken Breast Served With Fresh Tomato Sauce and Italian Cheese.

:p

Oh, Chris. My baby. Here it wasn't too much but he noticed it and that was the end.

:rotfl: Chris sounds like my brother! He's 19 now but can still be picky with little things and about certain foods. He's been better (he sometimes tries new things). But a couple years ago we got him those mini Kraft cups and he hated them. He decided it was because the cheese was powder unlike the one that came in the big box....you can see where this is going right? Well one day I was making him a box of mac and cheese and he saw the cheese was indeed a powder and threw the biggest fit! He claimed it never was one before and I made it that way  We also had a very hard time taking him to Mexican Radio 2 years ago even though he just had tacos and he vowed to never go back.

Santa is chill but Mrs. Claus looks like she's searching for a child to eat for dinner lol.

:rotfl:

So many amazing options at Il Mulino, since DH and I stay at Epcot Resorts making the trek over to Swalphin is defintiely a possibility!

Hi Ariane! Arancini...YUM! My husband is 100% Sicilian, and his mom makes HOMEMADE arancini. It is DELICIOUS and a labor of love. She makes it for us every time we come down. I'll be having it sometime in March when we are down, because I already put in our request...

Gah! That Mrs. Clause scared me in the TR and she's scaring me again for the dining report. She needs a warning label, LOL!!

Ok, so...YUM!! I want to eat all of the things you guys ordered. Everything looks amazing.

Poor Chris and the attack of the corn meal :sad2: L doesn't like his pizza with anything like that either. Or if the cheese is too "fancy". In his mind, I think that means anything other than shredded mozz from a bag. He's not too picky, so I can't complain much...or can I??

I was trying to think back and recall if I've ever had limoncello by itself and not mixed into a drink, and I don't think I have!

As for the new magic bands...I am on team "no." I really don't think it's me being resistant to change, either, they're just oddly shaped! But, they are a sign of a fast approaching trip, so I can't hate on them too much!!

(also having a heart attack about your friend and offsite and Christmas and fast passes and...:scared1: I hope everything worked out for them!!)
