If you don’t need miles for your trip, I’d go CSP. More flexible currency and current offer is highest offered. URs can be used for your trip or if you’re staying On property, charge to your room (anything that you don’t have gift cards for) and pay with CSR for 2x points, and work on MSR while you’re at it.

I don’t have United cards, but you should definitely check to make sure it’s a highest sign up bonus before pulling the trigger on that.
That makes sense, thanks!

Yes, I've picked up a redemption card inside Epcot at Guest Relations. Then walked outside and called Chase to transfer my points onto the card and was able to use them right away. They actually gave me an envelop with all the information, T&C's etc.
Great, thanks! I’d really like to use them while we’re there this time 😃

@Haley R - Thanks for posting a new video. I loved it. Funny that you walk all that way to see the monkeys and then you're not supposed to stare at them.

@calypso726 - Happy Birthday!!!
I’m glad you liked the video! Basically you’re just supposed to be “near” the monkeys but not disturb them. If you stare or crouch they might get intimidated and attack you. It was fun feeding them apples though.

I don;t log on for a day and already we have a new thread 21 pages long! Happy New Year everyone!

2020 Churning Goals:
- SW Companion pass (applying tonight or tomorrow for 2nd card)
- Continue to maximize category spend on the cards we have - We have a good set of "keeper" cards
- Continue to earn URs (CIP here I come)
- Continue to earn Hilton points and earn bonus night on DH's new Aspire

More Amex thoughts: IF I decide I do, after all, want to apply for the Amex Platinum card,

  • It has a $200 airline incidental credit that we DO think can be used for those Southwest flights under $102? (Same as I've read about the Aspire airline credit)?
  • I don't use Uber much so I can't count on getting use out of that.
  • It has an $85 credit for TSA precheck but I don't generally travel alone so in order for both of us to use it I'd have to pay separately for precheck for my husband... still potentially useful
  • I don't know if the lounge thing would be useful or not- I rarely fly. It might be funny to hang out in a fancy lounge while going to my el-cheapo Southwest wanna get away flight....

Should I go to cardmatch (I think that's it) before applying? I doubt I'll be matched for the Platicorn since I already have an Amex card. Does it hurt to try?

I'm sorry I'm rambling. Now that the flights are out of the way I'm scrambling to make hotel plans.
I received my Platicorn offer through the prequalified offers on the Amex page. I just googled American Express Prequalified offers and it brought me to the page.

Yes, Global Entry or Precheck better for both people. I ended up paying the extra $100 out of pocket for DH because right now it just makes sense card wise to not add him as an AU.

Southwest still working for low fares credit.

Uber Eats has been great in our area for Uber credits. We’ve found a favorite taco place of ours that does pick up so we save on delivery fee. In fact, now that I have Uber eats on my phone we’ve been using more than just the $15 per month 🤪

Can DH change his CSP to CSR? He hasn't had it a year yet, but I'd like the 1.5% redemption (not to mention insurance and travel credit). Also, when would the new annual fee hit and how would it be prorated? I haven't decided if I will do this yet. What should I consider?

The card act prevents product changing the card to a higher fee card with in the first year. You need to wait 1 year.

Happy New Year everyone! Some may recall that we were able to get a points reservation for NYE at Baker’s Cay in Key Largo by using stalking skills. The rooms were a little over $1,000 per night and 60,000 Hilton points was a great value.

We were upgraded to a 1 bedroom ocean view suite. Diamond members (thank you Aspire card) get a breakfast credit, free valet, cocktail at sunset, free bike rental, complimentary snorkeling and fishing equipment rental. If you are staying on points or the free night cert there is no resort fee either. We had a great time and loved the resort. It’s a perfect staycation place for us and wonderful spot to ring in the New Year and my birthday. I will do a write up on the hotel thread.

Happy Birthday and beautiful pics! Great upgrade!

Happy New Year!

Coming out of the lurking shadows to say hello and thanks to all the advice on here. We are very low level churning, but it’s always great to learn how to make our travel budget stretch more.

DH and I live in the Midwest, have four kids - a college freshman, 16-year-old, 12-year-old and 1-year-old. The last decade we were bit by the Disney bug and do our best to get there as often as possible.

I’ve resolved to be more active on the boards I enjoy following. Perusing the DisBoards is my decompression time. Congrats to all of you for building such a supportive community.
Welcome!! I feel like you are me! I have a college kiddo, a 17yo, an 11yo and an 8 yo. Yours are even more spread than mine but kiddos spanning all ages is my life lol!!! I can say that there is a place for you here. We can get you fixed up and on the way to cheaper travel. So happy you have joined us!
