Coronavirus discounts on the horizon?

I think it's likely they will offer discounts if concerns continue. We just came back from WDW less than 2 weeks ago. My son got sick on trip and it has taken 10 days for him to make a full recovery. My biggest concern with travel right now is being on an airplane, if I had to guess that's where he got sick. If corona virus becomes wide spread I'll definitely be avoiding airplanes, which means WDW is out. I'll also be avoiding cruise ships for at least the next year.

I don't know if this is coincidental or related to the virus, however on Tuesday I received a code for $69 + tax All-Star rooms for a few selected date periods in April and mid-May. I did go ahead and book, but I do also think the timing is interesting.

I got this same discount originally sent in mid December 2019 with dates in February, April and May. I also got the same email this week with the same dates (minus Feb). Figured they hadn't seen the booking numbers they wanted so they sent reminders.

And I totally just booked it for a relatively quick trip for my little guys birthday with my BFF from WI and her little one as well. I couldn't book our first night for less than $330 onsite so we're staying near the airport since I can get a cheapo Marriott employee rate room for one night. I'll keep checking in case a room becomes available but we aren't planning on going to the parks anyway since we want a pool day to recover from flying with toddlers! Flights are super cheap too!

Same. I work for a big energy company. They have banned international travel and domestic requires VP approval.

o_O I didn’t know they could do that in the US.

I work in healthcare in Canada and they haven’t banned us from going anywhere 🤷🏻‍♀️ If we do end up going somewhere that ends up on the high advisory list we will have to self quarantine for 14 days upon return though and call our temps in to a nurse.

Unless things really change, we will go. We will just wipe things down. We do not leave until the end of May though. As for the virus(and all illnesses) stay home if you are sick, and always wash your hands with soap and water, it those are not available, hand sanitizer (or washatizer) as my son calls it, works.

Sorry let me clarify.
My company won't let the employees travel for business purposes.

We aren't booked to go until the week after Thanksgiving this year, so I'm in a different boat than others here. I'm itching to see what Disney will do to combat the hits they're taking from coronavirus - both from current trips being shortened/cancelled/moved, and from the bottom-line hit of having 3 international parks closed for so long. Will they offer discounts for the rest of the year to encourage people to book and travel, or will they have a price hike to make up the lost revenue wherever they can? We'll see, but my fingers are always crossed for discounts.
This is what I'm hoping too, JacknSally. I'm keeping my eyes open for an after Thanksgiving trip as well. Nothing booked yet.

The big one to watch for will be cheerleading and dance contest at disney. If they cancel I wouldn't surprise if the shut all star sport those weekend and move others booked there to other resorts

Too late now, but in the future it wouldn't hurt to get the insurance the airlines are offering at a small cost when booking.
We fly a ton, almost every 2-3 weeks, and never buy the insurance. Hasn’t backfired yet but definitely didn’t see a pandemic coming either.

If you fly that much you definitely have saved thousands of dollars of insurance money so even if you did have to cancel several tickets (and the airlines stop waiving cancelation fees) you’ve still saved money. That’s what I tell myself anyway.

I got the same offer! Did yours have February dates on it too even though it was received on 3/3?
One of my dates fell within that range, so they did apply it to that one night when I called and asked about it.
Yes, mine had Feb dates on it.

Are you flying out of MKE?

Our week-long trip starts April 29th and we've got room-only rezzes so we could cancel, but we'd have to eat the airfare unless JetBlue was nice about it. I'm proceeding as if the trip is gonna happen and I hope it will.
JetBlue is being very good about changes, I just switched airports we are flying in and out of to avoid NYC airports and they changed everything fees waived for our 4/9-15 trip. They even let me cancel the Blue Basic tickets and rebook with no argument. In the end the flights were actually less then my original bookings so I have a $50 credit. 😁

That's the week we're booked for this year. I have about half my trip paid with no discounts. I'm in the same boat - wondering if they will offer discounts if the crowds seem low, or will they hike the prices up to cover the losses in the other parks? I have no clue, but I just priced an identical trip (6 nights, 7 day passes with hoppers, deluxe dining, and memory maker) and it is exactly $200 more today than when I booked. Every resort still has availability, but I'm only looking for 2 guests.

They'll offer discounts. There is really only 1 week of the year with zero discounts for room only. That's from Christmas day through New Years day. And if you are booking a package and can check in on Christmas Eve you'll still get a discount for that week.
Now, that doesn't mean you'll have your pick of every resort and room category on property. You may need flexibility to find a room that suits with the discount but they'll have one and that has nothing to do with any virus's or other calamities.
But they haven't released the discounts yet, that's all. Only through part of summer so far

Interesting. We have Delta flights booked for spring break and I don’t think I got an email. I’ll have to check. We are headed to DL and don’t currently have plans to cancel, but I also figured we’d have fees to change our flight.
Just got a similar email from American yesterday.

I agree. it kind of bothers me about how people just go “ I live my life not in fear of a media—produced event” as if people who have concerns are somehow gullible or not as enlightened as they are. Or “ it’s just the flu, only the elderly are affected”. Even if you aren’t in the high risk category, I bet you have a loved one who is... My parents are in their 70s and 80s, so I do worry.

And it’s not just the flu... a medical professional giving Congress an update today even said to stop likening it to the flu. we have a vaccine for the flu (albeit not perfect). We have antivirals tested against the flu. I haven’t ever seen companies restrict travel and the US government put up level 3 and 4 advisories for influenza. I haven’t seen cruise ships denied ports and undergoing quarantine for influenza. And it’s not the US alone—other countries are imposing many more restrictions. It’s not like the Italian government is sitting around watching CNN and deciding to close all schools for a month. I don’t think South Korea gives a flying flip what is on US television.

I do think that the incidence is way higher in the US than known due to lack of testing and that the mortality rate will go down. But it’s something to watch...very closely. I’m not stockpiling, but I not going to just wave this off and tell myself that everything is totally normal
Ships are huge disgusting petri dishes of germs. I'm sure you've heard of them getting that norva (SP?) virus and yeah, even being denied port a time or two.

I have parents in their 70's and 80's but not worried for their health for this. Granted, they aren't travelling anywhere either. Travelling is a risk for them, regardless of corona virus.

Right now, those hit hardest have secondary conditions. Sorry, that is still tragic but a common cold could have also been the final straw for those people. Otherwise healthy people are not at risk. Of getting sick, sure. People get sick all the time.
The media is blowing this out of proportion and for some reason, the Government is jumping on it too. They have decided to play Chicken Little and pretend the sky is falling. I don't know why but I have my suspicions and this isn't the place for them.
And yes, I have talked to those in the medical profession who aren't in the fear spreading business so I have an informed opinion

Currently have hotel and flights for Disneyland in the summer. All on points. Holding back on buying theme park tickets, baseball and soccer tickets until we are sure it won't get derailed.

At some point the US parks might have to make some adjustments or changes to remain open. In talking to a character meet person, they are surprised that Meet & Greets haven't been cancelled for now. They said they meet 1000 people a day, holding hands, hugging them .... potentially passing lost of germs to lots of people.

I can see the potential of future discounts on the horizon.
Time will tell.

I know someone who was just offered $59 a night at an AllStar Resort. My DH (who rarely goes with us to Disney) said let's go!!! To which I replied, the tickets aren't discounted. Nevermind.

After 9/11 we booked the cabins super low, want to say $113 or $130. We stayed a week and had a great trip ... but we can drive. We might see Disney resort rates drop depending on how the next couple months go.

DH's company has stopped all domestic and international travel. Most the employees work remotely including DH, so I don't know what parameters they have put in place for the home office workers regarding personal travel.
