Coronavirus discounts on the horizon?

Could you elaborate, please?
COVID-19 symptoms
According to the CDC, symptoms of COVID-19, the disease the new coronavirus causes, may include:
  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath
Symptoms may appear in as little as 2 days and as long as 14 days after you’re exposed to the virus.
Yes, those are the early symptoms, or symptoms if you have a moderate case... which a lot of people will have. But for around 10%, your skin feels like its on fire, and you can't breathe. Your body basically starts suffocating itself. I'm sure the people who die from the flu have some awful symptoms, but I'm describing here the people who "survive" covid19. So, no, not like the flu.

It is true that different people have different reactions. For example, it doesn't appear to affect children much at all. But I still stand by the statement it is not like a "regular old flu". Especially when you factor in how crazy fast it can spread and potentially overload the hospitals, which is already happening now in Italy.

Back on topic, yes I agree there will be price cuts... eventually.

Arriving March 27th, so that's all out the window. :'( So close! Right now I'm just going to try to get our hotel cancelled (I just need to be able to get through to WDW on the phone, haha). My little sister is so disappointed that we won't be doing VAH, but what can you do. Once they open back up I'll see what I can do to re-book.

Thank you! This is information I couldn't find.
Well, I'm not a doctor, I just heard this directly from a doctor, so you know... this is the internet after all. But dig for reliable, science-based sources, and it will confirm this.

I'm going to back off my guess about discounts a little bit. I think initially, yes, definitely some discounts, but I bet they're going to be snatched up. Why? There are probably a LOT of people who have no current plans to go to WDW. BUT, after this panic is over, those same people will be thinking "how can we celebrate getting through this?" And they're going want to go to Disney World.

Yeah, also though many schools are closed and will continue to be closed. This will have to impact certain months also considering these dates will have to be made up sooner or later. A lot of kids might have to be going to class over the summer over this

This puts a real confusion of when to actually go or keep plans and to be honest, who knows what’s going to happen or how long this will last. I’m fairly certain many trips anywhere are going to be on hold for a while

Disney just termed the current college program and international program cast members. They have to be out of housing by March 18. They’re getting paid through the end of March, and getting successful completion credit for their full program. Spring CP’s were in until June, Spring Advantage were in through August. Tons of speculation now whether Disney knows they won’t reopen in two weeks, or if hours will be trimmed back, or what. Fall advantage CP’s are supposed to come in in May - they aren’t sure right now if that’s still happening, either.

Wow. Now the part timers can become full time and still open in April

o_O I didn’t know they could do that in the US.

I work in healthcare in Canada and they haven’t banned us from going anywhere 🤷🏻‍♀️ If we do end up going somewhere that ends up on the high advisory list we will have to self quarantine for 14 days upon return though and call our temps in to a nurse.

My daughter lives in Montreal and sent me this.

We're currently booked for a trip the 2nd week in June. I'm somewhat optimistic that this will be on the downswing by then, but it's not a given by any means. I've been keeping a close eye on airfare prices. It's typically not cheap to fly from my low to mid-size airport to anywhere, much less a travel mecca, so we were planning on making the multi-day drive down there. BUT I noticed last night that airfare on SWA has plummeted for that time frame, to a level that makes it almost a wash with driving. Would you take a chance on purchasing that airfare, not knowing 100% that you'd be taking the trip? At least SWA gives you a travel voucher if you don't use the tickets, but still...

We cancelled and relieved we did. 😷😷😷. As sad as I was doing that I’m happy we rebooked for October. Thank you Disney for waiving holding account penalties for DVC members affected by shutdown. Now I just hope this virus gets under control.

I saw this too and my first thought was- this doesn’t give the international students much time to find flights to go home or what if they can’t get home, especially to Europe. Or China. Italy. I hope WDW will make alternate arrangements for those that can’t get home by that date.

Too late now, but in the future it wouldn't hurt to get the insurance the airlines are offering at a small cost when booking.
Oddly, the AIG policy that was offered in November from United specifically excluded pandemics! I kicked myself for not buying it (April trip coming up), but it looks as if it wouldn't have helped much. :(

We have trips booked for early Aug, fingers crossed, and for late Nov. I have our air for Aug, but keep looking for lower fares for our Nov/Dec trip. So far they’re still high.

Actually many if not all travel insurance policies exclude pandemics. This has been so for years. For my two my Med cruises and TA in the last ten years, I bought policies from AIG and they excluded pandemics.

According to CBS Miami, Disney is now refunding any trips booked through June 30th with no fees.

WDW resorts, Disney Springs, Vero Beach, and Downtown Disney in Disneyland will be closing this week.

I managed to find one late Jan in Australia when the news was coming out. They only cover people who bought before who announced global tranmisisonnon Jan 31. But real kickers is it only covers if there is a govermenent restriction. International that means level 4 no travel (like China). For internal USA I'm guessing that means state borders closing or city lock down
