The media isn't scaring the heck out of people. It is to get people to act appropriately given the lack of information. It is 10x deadlier than the flu right now, there is insufficient testing in the U.S. to determine the extent of the spread, and for some population, it is much deadlier.
I'm all in favor of informing the people but 24/7 coverage does begin to work on the nerves. We don't have all the answers yet and to continue to say the same thing over and over again does start to scare people whether you think so or not. Why do you think you have all those "crazy, scared" people trying to buy all the toilet paper, paper towel, hand soap and food they see? They are acting like this is the end of days, it's not. We will get it under control and things will get back to normal.
Sure, we could just not care and the vast majority of the population will actually be OK. However, you would be sacrificing the vast majority of those with compromised immune systems, those with respiratory issues, and those over the age of 70.
I never said I didn't care. I do but I don't think the constant droning on is helping to calm peoples fears. Stressing people out isn't good for the immune system. Anything that's not good for the immune system I would think wouldn't be good at this time. I guess the best course of action is to not watch the news channels because this is pretty much all they are talking about. If they had some new information it would be helpful but pretty much it's the same thing over and over again. That's not to say that they shouldn't report on it but not all the time, I'm sure there are other important things going on in the world that's not being covered because of this.
If you want to blame people for causing the hysteria, blame 1.) The government for not developing and providing enough testing; 2.) The hoarders (I'm not talking about the common folk), but those who deliberately went shop to shop to purchase all of the masks/santiation materials to deliberately sell at huge markups on
amazon/eBay; and 3.) The business owners who did not react by instituting rationing measures.
1.) I do believe the government is working on getting enough testing kits. 2.) Agree the hoarders are crazy and if being done for large profits shameful. 3.) I don't think the business owners realized the extent of how people would be going crazy because they heard on the "news shows" to stock up. I don't think we should be blaming the shop keeps for this issue, it's easy to be a "Monday morning quarterback". Just sayin
