News and Developments for Future In-Person runDisney Events

I'm sure whoever pulled the stock photo had no clue what kind of shoes they are.....why would we expect runners to actually be in charge of the races? ;)

The big decline in runDisney race shirt quality (and in runDisney shirt/merch design and selection of late) has proven to me that they are not actually runners...

(don't get me started, lol)

I always wondered why they don’t just give us a credit to use in the merch area at the races to buy what we want. You want the race shirt, pick it up, you want the pint glass...have at it! Actually, no, not the pint glass.. my 2019 glass is a peeled mess of graphics and I only hand wash it. You get the gist 🙂

I have to say I bought the red long sleeve generic drink-fit like material runDisney shirt in March when I saw it at AK and like it a lot. I feel like the Champion stuff is kind of "blah" but this one was good. Great for the park too

It left me believing that Disney wants these events happening as much as we do. I know nothing about actual profits of a given event and to what numbers much be reached to make the event profitable. But I do believe there is a true specialness to runDisney events. It keeps us coming back. It motivates us to share. The long term upside of getting in-person events happening is just too valuable.
There's a lot of truth to this. As a west coaster, Disney World races are difficult every year. Factor in the way that race weekends, especially multi race challenges impact multiple day of a Disney World visit and after the 2017 Dark Side Half Marathon, I vowed that my next WDW trip would be race free. And I meant it. And in the fall of 2017, they announced that runDisney races in Anaheim were cancelled for the foreseeable future due to construction projects. Honestly, being pretty disappointed about that news, I considered "retiring" from races. To that point, I had only run in Disney races. I had two Coast to Coast medals, had run in every Star Wars race I could, and had a Kessel Run medal. In terms of running dreams, I could retire on top as it were. And then on a whim, I decided that I wanted to run what might be the last runDisney race in Disneyland ever and signed up for Avengers untrained with just 3 weeks to go. 1 week before Avengers, I almost upgraded to the Infinity Gauntlet Challenge but it had sold out already/closed registration. So instead, I signed up for the 2018 Dark Side Challenge at Disney World. And then later that summer, I signed up for 2019 Dopey. And then in September 2018, I ran my first non Disney race. And in January 2019 I ran my first marathon as part of my first Dopey. And a month later signed up to do it all over again in 2020. I was registered for Star Wars 2020 until it was canceled. And registered for Star Wars 2021 and kept it when it went virtual.

There's no way I ever would have signed up for the marathon if not for so many people here sharing their marathon experiences and helping me see a viable path to the marathon that involved the necessary miles to reach that goal without turning my entire life over to training.
Who wants to start training for something there is a high chance you will be shut out of?
Exactly. Training for April races in Disney World is a major sacrifice of time for me. I only do it for races with the perfect theme, ie Star Wars. Well, even before the 2020 Star Wars race weekend was canceled, I could see the writing on the wall and stopped training before the races were canceled. Because I knew I would not be able to do it and the time it took was time that I simply did not have.

THISSSSSSS. This is why I come to this group EVERY day.

What are the odds of an announcement on a Friday? Usually it would be not so good news, but we could break from tradition - Good News Friday!
Sadly I'm betting that they wouldn't have made that non-announcement yesterday if they were planning on giving news today. I think that's the communication for the week. I'd love to be wrong though!

Twitter, FB, and Instagram are where the teasers are. If a big announcement is made, they will also update rundisney.com and the social media posts will direct traffic there for more info.

I think we will find out W&D is cancelled or virtual but MW 2022 happens are we are back to "normal". I really hope they make some changes to the old courses and formula and that the spring race is a Flower and Garden compliment to W&D complete with the after party at Epcot.

Out of curiosity, why?

I'm a rD newbie, but I'm so wishing to run through the castle at least once in my life! :D

I'd like to see different courses for different weekends and the whole 5k, 10k, half, challenge for every weekend gets old. I imaging they will always run MW down Main Street and through the Castle and the full should run through all 4 parks since that is the draw but the actual route, start and finish lines, etc can change.
