How much onboard credit do I need?

The answer will always be subjective. For my family of four I always went with $250 per night plus prepaid gratuities. That rarely covered everything, but my final bill was usually around $200 extra. Now that my “children” are older, I plan $350 per night.

    Check in for cruise question

With online check in, it seems that dropping off luggage and going through security is about the only thing anyone does at the port these days. The check in process of taking security photos and issuing key cards is a thing of the past.

    Wine package receipt.

I have always received an email receipt after purchasing a wine package…but then, I have never had the issues you described. Best of luck.

How does this double dip work?

One other thing that I’ve been told is that the bugs on the island get so thick after sundown that no passengers would be willing to be up on deck.

Connecting Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom w/ Verandah

I obviously haven’t seen the Treasure, but verandahs on all the other ships seem to have had doors that crew can open to connect them. Even rooms without a connecting door look like they can have their verandahs connected.

Favorite water shoes/sandals for decks and beach

I like my Teva original universal sandals. Light and airy, stay on in the water, dry quickly. Great for parks, beach, and on deck.

    Castaway Cay docking stats

The only time we missed Castaway Cay was our Alaska cruise. Made up for it when the next cruise skipped Nassau due to COVID and gave us an unexpected double dip.

A dumb question before our first cruise! (March 31 - Dream, Western Caribbean)

To each their own, personally, I choose more cruises over a single concierge experience…every time. Have a great trip!

    Trying New Ships

We are fortunate to have sailed Fantasy, Magic, Magic, Wonder, Dream, Wish, & Wish with the last two being a B2B. Now we are looking forward to returning to our ‘home’ ship as we sail on the Fantasy in December. Each has her charms and quirks, but I love them all. No disappointment here.

7 Day Treasure vs. Back To Back Wish

Apparently an unpopular opinion, but we were happy with the B2B on the Wish despite the short time between menus and repeated shows. We did not go to the shows twice, opting to schedule other events on either the first or second time. It worked out well for us…but the early rising between...

I really really really want to try a cruise, but...

The Boss Lady and our daughter both get terrible motion sickness. On seven cruises we all take a Bonine every morning, starting the day before. Neither of them have ever been sick on any of our cruises.

Advanced sign-ups/Registrations - First time on Disney Cruise

Yes, you will miss some opportunities as a first time cruiser, but there will likely be activities you want available. On line registration is the sometimes frustrating process of uploading your travel documents like passports, providing DCL payment info, uploading a photo for each traveller...

Should I buy the Photo Package

We always buy the package in advance. One three night cruise we were not happy with the photos, mainly quantity…our fault, so we cancelled the last night…no problem and quick refund.

    Disney Wish/Atlantis advice

We had about five hours there and did enjoy our time. The river ride is easy to get in and out of. The steep slides had twenty to forty minute lines, reasonable in my opinion, with only a couple of them closed. The area is beautiful, pools were nice, and rest areas are plentiful. The only very...

    Disney Wish/Atlantis advice

Definitely not DCL’s fault for the accident. But the port traffic is just one more reason for me to never do an Atlantis excursion again.

    Disney Wish/Atlantis advice

If DCL streamlined the process, I would HATE to see what it was like before. Atlantis was nice, but I will never go again for a day trip from a cruise…DCL or otherwise. Getting there took extra long because a fender bender involving our bus. Once we got there it seemed like three or four ships...

Feeling sad, after cruise is done with

I’m the 60 year old dad of the family…and I am practically in tears each time they make me get off the ship. (For the record, it has nothing to do with the bill.)

How much do you spend once onboard?

It all comes down to your own spending habits on vacation. I always front load our OBC with $250 per night (after prepaid tips). That covers shore excursions, shopping, adult dining, etc. This is for our family of four. I usually get a refund of unused credit…at worst I may need to add a couple...

Anyone who has cruised since key cards aren't given at the port? How do we get on the ship, and into our rooms?

We needed our port arrival form with the QR code to check in, then they coded the MagicBand+ to the room.

    No Mail/Luggage Tags From DCL

We never received our tags for our most recent cruise…no problem, but I did miss our Mickey Mail.
