April 29, 2012 ~ Aloha! ~ Wonder to Hawaii- who is with me?

I was concerned when I asked for yet one more change to our shirt design, the black outlining, because I had already gone back and forth with the artist they are paying to come up with a design for us. They have no firm commitment that we will be buying anything from them and unlike some of the other companies I called, they do not charge for their art work. Other companies I called had the info on their web sites that indicated they had more to offer then Becky's does but when I called them it turned out they don't really have what their site implied. They all are about the same but I like working with people who are up front. I believe Beck and her family are.

This morning I received the following message from Becky
"...We are delighted with the prospect of creating your custom Hawaiian shirt. However, we have reviewed what we have paid our artist to create the design up to this point and it has exceeded our amount allocated per project. ... Normally all of our artwork and set up fees are included in the price but we have really already gone above and beyond for this project. We would feel more comfortable doing additional artwork once we had an order or commitment in hand."
I responded with
"I completely understand. Right now people tell me "they will order". However, the catch-22 is that until I have their payment all I have is their statement that they want them. I can't collect money until I know how much to charge and I don't know that until I know how many will be ordered.
I am spending a lot of time on this but understand you are spending time and money on the artist and this is your livelihood.
I can promise that these are the last design changes I will ask for. I am not doing any more work on the design but understand if you have already reached or exceeded that point.
I had been working with someone at Pay Pal earlier this morning to setup the account people can use to deposit their order $. I planned to open an account at the bank this morning for this. My next step was to build an order form, based on the info you have given and have you confirm this.
I can only promise you that while I have gotten quotes from other shirt makers (while doing my due diligence I found the cost is about the same) it is my intent that when I order shirts for this group I plan on it being from you.
I'll post a notice of your concern and my issues and see what response I get."

I completely understand this it is still months from when our final cruise payment is due. Additionally, I can't tell you the cost of the shirts until I know how many we would be ordering and the difference is a lot - about 35% if we order 50 versus 200 shirts.

I did hear back from Becky that she intends to have Todd make the black outlines. Your thoughts and recommendations on how to proceed? Should we proceed?

Kids and toddler sizes are going to be available correct? I say go with it!.. Seems most everyone likes the latest and greatest design that you have come up with. But, I am just one person, and that is just my one opinion. Please still put me down for 4. (2 adult, 1 kid, 1 toddler)..

When I asked about kid sizes at the beginning of this I was told yes, if we have at minimum of 10 kid size orders. I will be confirming all of the ordering stuff and prices, such as the additional charge for the sizes above XL. The shirts are unisex. Other sites indicated they have ladies shirts but when I called they didn't really. I don't care if my shirt buttons on the WRONG size.

I love last design and I'm all for it....I'll order 4 if we can get kids sizes too. Thank you, thank you Val for all your hard work.

I'll take 1 kids maybe 2 depending on measurements & 2 adult. Maybe some material too. Just let me know about how much $.

Now I just have to come up with a way to make it.

I would like to make it so it comes apart.

My best friend from high school is going with me on this cruise and it would be great if I could make one that would come apart so she could take the part with her name on it with her when she went home.

This is her first Disney cruise so I really want it to be special for her.

It is my first Disney cruise since the divorce. The disney cruises were one thing fdh (former dear hubby) and I did that we really enjoyed. I want to really enjoy this one and have no regrets that I don't have the same traveling companion.

The craft stores sell chain that could be used to clip sections together and lend it self to the "nautical" feel of a cruise. Velcro is also a possibility.

I would say go for it. I know I will order two shirts and even if we would end up cancelling the cruise (which I don't plan on doing), I would still want the shirts.

Val, I need to know when we would have to pay for the shirts. Since our Vacationbid is still 3 months away I can't commit till I know for sure I am going. I think you have gone way above and beyond here.

I concur.. It may take a little extra practice and time on our part to get our fingers to work backwards, but, we will manage!.. It seems like there won't be to big of an issue getting 10 kids orders,,:woohoo:

Thanks for the words of encouragement.

Last year the doctors agreed with you that it was his gallbladder so they took it out. That wasn't it. Then we went to University of California, UC, to see a biliary "expert" and they said his sphincter of ode was not working correctly so he had surgery to open it - twice. Then we went to University of Stanford to see a liver specialist who had a liver biopsy taken, which was sent back to UC to the best pathologist in the western US. It was ok. He has had 4 ERCPs and more then 6 CTs and MRIs to check his pancreas. He has had a colonoscopy and a stomach endoscopy. His blood counts go up to dangerous numbers and they run tests or admit him but don't find the problem. He had a biopsy done on a tumor from his arm that they said was stage four abdominal cancer but then the surgeon who removed the tumor and another pathologist said it wasn't. Two weeks ago they put a stint in his common bile duct. Still he has all this pain. It has been a difficult couple of years.

My heart goes out to you and Bob. I pray the doctors finally find out the cause of his pain. Chronic pain can seriously put a damper on your fun, not to mention the uncertainty on not knowing what is causing the pain.

We are in for 2 adult shirts (I hope they'll have a size that will fit my DH...he's 6'4") and will forward payment when you get an account set up.

We will be ordering 3 adult shirts, as long as the price is under $50 per shirt.

I feel VERY comfortable spending up to $30.........:rolleyes1

I would love to order some fabric if the price is about $12-$15 per yard.

Connie

Welcome to all the new cruisers who have joined us!

LOVE the shirts! Border, no border, pocket, no pocket... does not matter to me. (okay.. well, DH would probably like a pocket but he can live without)

We are in for definitely one, probably two and a couple yards of material depending on width and if I can find a pattern that works with it. And also if I can find my sewing machine.... :lmao:

Val,

We are in for 2 adults.

You have put more time and effort into this than most people would have. Thank you.

Hope the doctors can figure out what is going on soon for Bob.

Jon

Becky & Todd have sent me the final copy. I think it looks good but realize we all have different ideas of what looks good - that is what makes the world interesting and not all the same. Wouldn't that be very boring?

They have outlined as I asked and bolded the text. Next step is I will get with Becky and get an order form ready.

Well I got some awaome news today. A week from Thursday, looks like I will be having dinner at Club 33.

For the shirt I am in, I just need to know when we have to have a final decision. Thanks again Val. It looks great.

Val and Bob - our thoughts and prayers are with you. I have some idea of what you are going through.
Love, love, the shirts. Will order a 3x for my husband and probably an XL for me- depending on how they run. Just let me know when and where to send the payment. You deserve a great big hug from all of us. THANK YOU

I would do 2 XXl shirts no more that $45-50. Knowing that this is a pretty unique item!

Thanks

Debbie
