The perk was taken away from everyone when they re-opened. All we know now is they aren't giving that perk back to anyone, but are adding some kind of EMH perk for Deluxe/DVC. We don't know how often, which parks or when and we don't know how long the EMH will be. Disney has this incredibly frustrating knack of name events the same or near same thing. After Hours, Extra Magic Hours, Extra Morning Magic....good God, be original and name them different names, because they are different.
Such is life. Disney changes perks all the time. Some I love, some I don't love at all. This one I like a great deal from what little I know of it. Sounds like a longer period of time and clearly will be significantly less crowded than the original evening hours.
I'm not trying to be rude here and i hope it doesnt come across that way, but you can call it what you want to. I dont care what disney calls it, a different name doesnt change what it is. It's basically the same as the magic hours that we had before covid. What makes it better is that it has limited people to it, and its limited because it shut out everyone that's not in deluxe resorts.
We pay a premium to stay on disney property also. Even a value resort is a massively inflated price for the hotel room you get. We justified paying those because of those services that we did get. I'll freely admit that my wife and i fell into a routine and didnt really do our homework with off property hotels for a long long time, i guess that's the "disney trap". What i will say is that the moves Disney has made in the recent years, and including this one, has opened our eyes.
I posted this on another thread, we were at disney for 8 nights starting on June 19th and stayed at Pop, we drove down the 18th and stayed at a Hampton a few miles away. The Pop room rate that i paid was literally twice as much as the Hampton Inn, meanwhile the Hampton had a bigger room, more comfortable beds, cleaner, much larger bathroom, didnt charge us to park our car, had a microwave in the room, fed us breakfast, and we got rewards points. Those are things that Disney has kept us away from all these years, but these types of moves have opened our eyes. When we return in 2023 (if then), we wont be staying onsite.
See the thing is, we just spent $7500 on a week long trip and i dont think we splurged a lot on things, i know that number is pennies to a lot of people, but its not to us. Coming back from that trip a week later and seeing all this news, now it makes me feel like that Disney doesnt think they got enough of my money. We honeymooned at disney in 2008, and have only missed 2 years at Disney since then. We skipped a year when one of my sons was born, and we just skipped Disney last year because we wanted to do something different. 2 of those years we have been AP holders from NC, which required us to stay overnight when we visited. Both of those years we drove down at least 4 times, and combined we stayed offsite twice. I'm embarrassed by how much money we've spent on Disney over the years, and at the end of the day, i feel like Disney is saying to me, "it's not enough, we need you to pay us more".
We've chosen to do other things simply because of moves like this, and its not just this one announcement. Its the ever increasing prices over the past few years, parking fees, quality of food dimensioning, shorter park hours, increase in parties and after hour events, premium parking fees....i could go on.
I come here to vent and complain because i love disney, and this is the only place i know of that people understand that love of disney. The only thing i can do is vent (which i agree doesnt solve anything) and choose to take action with my wallet (which we have started to do).
Edit: i didnt mean to quote you twice, i thought i edited the last post. my apologies.
