Just more Stuff,,,,,

I don't know why I didn't know this already, but I just found out that actor Kevin Spacey is the voice of Hopper for Disney/Pixar's 1998 A Bug's Life . He also voiced Hopper for the 3D theme park short "It's Tough to Be a Bug" that is shown inside the Tree of Life at the Animal Kingdom.

Oh, and today is Kevin's birthday, born in 1959.

The Grand Californian Hotel in Anaheim, is currently the only hotel actually inside a U.S.
Disney theme park. There is an exclusive guest turnstile between Disney California Adventure and the hotel.

We have stay'd there, and yes, it is very cool, :thumbsup2

On July 28,1998,
Disney's first cruise ship The Magic, is christened by Patricia Disney (Roy E. Disney's wife). Built by Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri, the Disney Magic can hold approximately 2,400 passengers. The ship boasts 10 expansive decks, a total length of 964 feet, a maximum width of 106 feet and an astonishing gross tonnage of 83,000.
(It will embark on its maiden voyage two days later.)

Does anyone remember Disney's Big Red Boat ?

It was Disneys first try at cruising, and we had the privilege of doing a cruise with them.
The Big Red Boat was the original Disney cruise package. It was known for offering value cruises to the Bahamas, which could be combined with a Walt Disney World vacation.

At Disneyland, Tomorrowland was originally designed to be a small scale city of the future. When the park opened in 1955, Tomorrowland represented the distant future of 1986.

Walt Disney World's Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith opens with a special, invitation-only party, with Aerosmith as the guests of honor at Disney-MGM. (It will officially open to the public the following day.)

Yes, it happened on this day, July 29, 1999.

"Wait a minute, I love that idea. How about some backstage passes?" -Steven Tyler

July 30, 1999:
Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, officially opens to all guests as part of the largest property-wide expansion in Disney World history. The indoor steel roller coaster features a high-speed launch of 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds, three inversions, rock-concert lighting and a specially created Aerosmith soundtrack blasting from 120 on board speakers in each coaster
train - all firsts for a Disney World attraction.

Also at Walt Disney World, FASTPASS begins in the Magic Kingdom
on Space Mountain and Splash Mountain.

"At the Grand Floridian in Disney World, housekeeping folds your hand towels into little animals like ducks and bunnies. They then put things like your toothbrush and styling gel in them, so that when you walk into your room you have all these cute critters greeting you. It's a very heartwarming touch." -Samantha Brown(Travel Channel "star")

From our own experience over the years visiting Disney, housekeeping does this at many of their resorts. In fact Disney has gott'n so good at this that if you make a pee-pee run during the night, there will be one on your bed when you return !

:lmao:,,(kidding !) :lmao:

Child star Shirley Temple was on hand at Disneyland in 1957 (as an adult with her own children) to help dedicate a new attraction inside the Sleeping Beauty Castle.

Happy August 1, 2011

In August 1965 Walt Disney met with Brian Epstein - manager of The Beatles - to discuss the possibility of the popular Fab Four performing songs for the upcoming film The Jungle Book. Later band member John Lennon nixed the idea so Walt ended up using semi-soundalikes to voice the vultures in the film.

On this day , Aug. 2 , 1998:
Passengers aboard the Disneys Magic's maiden voyage become the very first Disney guests to set foot on Disney's private island, Castaway Cay (which officially opened July 30). Located 225 nautical miles from Disney's home port of Port Canaveral, Florida, the island stretches 3.1 miles long and 2.2 miles wide. Originally called Gorda Cay, the island was used for filming the 1984 feature Splash - where Tom Hanks first encountered Daryl Hannah on the beach.

On this day, Aug. 3 ,2001:
Disney's romantic comedy The Princess Diaries, starring Julie Andrews and Anne Hathaway, opens in theaters. Teenager Mia Thermopolis (Hathaway) discovers she is the heir to the throne of Genovia, ruled by her grandmother, Queen Clarisse Renaldi (Andrews). Directed by Garry Marshall, it is a screen adaptation of Meg Cabot's 2000 novel of the same name.

Anne Hathaway was hired (in part) for the role of Mia Thermopolis, a teenager who discovers that she is the heir to the throne of Genovia, because director Gary Marshall's granddaughters saw her audition tape and said she had the best "princess hair."

The Princess Diaries was Julie Andrews first movie with Disney since Mary Poppins.

Chewing gum cannot be purchased anywhere at Walt Disney World ... or at the Orlando International Airport (thus cutting down the chances of actually stepping in some).

Perhaps the busiest airport in the state of Florida, Floridians joke that MCO (the airport's code) stands for"Mickeys Corporate Office." The airport code MCO actually stands for the airport's former name, McCoy Air Force Base.

Walt Disney World begins to decorate for Christmas around November 15th ...
so the property will be ready in time for the Thanksgiving holiday!

In 2008, Disney World converted 430,000 incandescent holiday lights to LEDs, saving an estimated 1.1 million kilowatt hours throughout the holiday season, which is enough to power 61 homes annually!

In Aug. , 1970,, (I think it was Aug.6,1970 :confused3)
:hippie: A bizarre occurrence takes place at Disneyland when 750 "Hippies" and "Radical Yippies" infiltrate the park, and take over the Wilderness Fort. They raise the Vietcong flag and pass reefers out to passersbys. Later, they march in a Main Street parade, and sing their own lyrics to "Zipadee Doo
Dah" ("Ho, Ho, Ho Chi Mihn is going to win..."). More conservative park guests try to drown them out by singing "America the Beautiful." Before the confrontation can heat up, a platoon of Anaheim Police officers in full riot gear pour into the park from backstage areas! A riot is adverted and Disneyland vice president of Operations Dick Nunis orders the park closed at 7:10 PM. For many years afterward Disneyland will selectively enforced a "dress code" at the park, occasionally refusing admission to "long-haired hippies". (This unusual incident is the only time an outside security force has ever made a full-blown public appearance at the park.) :hippie:

"Walt's animation business had sort of gone under in Kansas City, and he needed to make a fresh start. He figured his bestchance was out in California. His Uncle Robert lived in a little house on Kingswell Avenue, and Walt figured he could mooch off him for a little while." -Disney archivist Dave Smith

As a young man, Walt will live with his Uncle Robert at 4406 Kingswell Avenue in Hollywood, upon his arrival in California from Kansas City. Walt will use Uncle Robert's garage as his first studio. (Today the garage is on display at the Stanley Ranch Museum in Garden Grove, California.

originally used Bambi - with limited permission from Disney - as their charismatic anti-fire mascot ... before they developed the now- famous Smokey the Bear!

At Disneyland, the Aunt Jemima Pancake House opens in Frontierland. Guests are greeted at the door by Aunt Jemima herself! (Later known as the River Belle Terrace, the Aunt Jemima Pancake House existed until 1962. After absorbing the adjacent Don DeFore’s Silver Banjo Barbecue Restaurant, it became Aunt Jemima’s Kitchen until 1970.)
Until the late 1960’s, Aunt J herself (portrayed by Aylene Lewis) would appear and sing to guests.

The menu included ,

Davy Crockett’s Delight (4 “brown-as-a-berry” pancakes)

Mark Twain Special (4 buckwheat pancakes)

Golden Horseshoe Special (4 buttermilk pancakes)

Slue Foot Sue’s Favorite (a waffle)

as well as A La Carte, eggs, bacon, sausages, and beverages.

My hat is off to a gentleman named Chuck Abbott.

In 1987, Disneyland veteran Chuck Abbott conceived and initiated the Cast Member seeing-eye dog fund, which became a highly successful volunteer group.

___________________________________________

Chuck Abbott entered the Disneyland on-ramp on August 10, 1955, as a ride operator on Autopia, "In the days when there was no track, and Cast Members had to be quick on their feet to avoid a collision with oncoming Guests," he recalled.

In 1969, Chuck was named "Foreman of the Year" at the Matterhorn. In 1977, he was foreman for the opening of Space Mountain, and returned to the Matterhorn for the big rehab and reopening of the attraction in 1978. During the course of his career, he also served as foreman of the Submarine Voyage, Jungle Cruise, Mine Train Through Nature's Wonderland, and many other attractions.

Chuck's outside interests included travel, camping, and fishing.
( sounds like my kinda guy) Bet he would'a loved Ft Wilderness.

Disney's Mickey Mouse cartoon Orphan's Benefit is released. This short marks Donald Duck's first appearance with Mickey Mouse. It is also the first cartoon in which Donald loses his temper, and the first in which he does his trademark fighting stance (hopping in place with one fist forward and the other swinging back and forth)!

2010:
It is reported that Toy Story 3 has earned over $895 million worldwide, surpassing Finding Nemo’s $867.8 million worldwide gross.
This makes Toy Story 3 (released in June 2010) Pixar’s all-time highest grossing film!
