I need to vent. We got our electric bill a few days ago. It seemed a little high to us. We noticed it was an "estimated" bill, so dh decided to call the electric company and make sure they hadn't made a mistake. The customer service rep had dh go outside to the meter and read the numbers to him. Then he recalculated the bill (keep in mind a few days have gone by since we received the bill and at least a few more days since they estimated the amount and mailed the bill). Our new amount to pay is $70 LESS than the estimated amount!!!!!! Dh must have gotten a csr who is fed up with his job because this guy told my dh to always call when you get an estimated bill. He seemed genuinely angry that people keep getting ripped off this way! So, while I'm really happy that we saved ourselves $70, I'm really angry about all the other estimated bills we've received and never realized they were estimated. How many other months did we over pay!!!??? What a scam!!!!

Check with the utility company, many have gone to reading meters only every other month to save money. Yes, the estimation may have been high but you did not overpay in the long run, the overage would be caught with the actual reading the next month and your bill will be smaller.

Say at your Sept actual reading the meter read 100, they estimate your use at 20 for Oct so you pay for 20 but you only used 15 so if you read your meter it would say 115 in Oct but they "guessed" 120. In Nov you use 15 again so your meter will read 130. If in Nov the company does an actual reading and sees it at 130 you will only be charged for actual usage, the 10 units for which you have not paid.

This is quite common around here - it all works out in the end.

A man in our town was convicted of rape in 1974 when he was 19 years old. After several appeals were turned down, a judge finally allowed for DNA testing to be conducted. Guess what?? The man was innocent, yet spent the last 35 years in jail for a crime he didn't commit. The only real condemning evidence against him in 1974 was the woman claimed she was raped by a black kid - and this kid happened to be out on the streets near the crime scene shortly after the rape was reported.

I'm very angry FOR this man!!

How can you be compensated for missing out on your entire life due to a false conviction?? There's not enough money in the world for that.

That's how it works on ours, when ours is estimated, they actually read it the next month and apply the proper amount.

We actually pay the same amount each month on "budget billing" then it all is adjusted once a year with a credit to me or extra payment.

WEATHER BULLETIN

Up here in the Northern part of Michigan we just recovered from a Historic event --- may I even say a "Weather Event" of "Biblical Proportions" --- with a historic blizzard of up to 44" inches of snow and winds to 90 MPH that broke trees in half, knocked down utility poles, stranded hundreds of motorists in lethal snow banks, closed ALL roads, isolated scores of communities and cut power to 10's of thousands.

FYI:

Obama did not come.

FEMA did nothing.

No one howled for the government.

No one blamed the government.

No one even uttered an expletive on TV.

Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton did not visit.

Our Mayors did not blame Obama or anyone else.

Our Governor did not blame Obama or anyone else either.

CNN, ABC, CBS, FOX, or NBC did not visit - or even report on this category 5snow storm.

Nobody demanded $2,000 debit cards.

No one asked for a FEMA Trailer House.

No one looted.

Nobody - I mean Nobody demanded the government do something.

Nobody expected the government to do anything either.

No Larry King, No Bill O'Rielly, No Oprah, No Chris Mathews and No Geraldo Rivera.

No Shaun Penn, No Barbara Striesand,
No Brad Pitts, No Hollywood types to be found.

Nope, we just melted the snow for water.

Sent out caravans of SUV's to pluck people out of snow engulfed cars.

The truck drivers pulled people out of snow banks and didn't ask for a penny.

Local restaurants made food, and the police and fire departments delivered it to the snow bound families..

Families took in the stranded people - total strangers.

We fired up wood stoves, broke out coal oil lanterns or Coleman lanterns.

We put on an extra layers of clothes because up here it is "Work or Die".

We did not wait for some affirmative action government to get us out of a mess created by being immobilized by a welfare program that trades votes for 'sittin at home' checks.

Even though a Category 5 blizzard of this scale is not usual, we know it can happen and how to deal with it ourselves.

I hope this gets passed on.

Fl. legislators voted to compensate individuals $50,000.00/year when errors such as these are made. Last I heard on the news was that he will get $1,750,000.00 from the State of Fl.
