Alright, just another post or two, and this one will be wrapped up.
This is a photo of the Publix supermarket that I mentioned earlier. It is 3.5 miles from the campground to this Publix. Since we knew it was here, I brought very little food from home on this trip, we just went to the store when needed. It is nice, clean, and well managed. Not having to plan a weeks’ worth of meals, and pack all of that food with us was a big relief:
Here are some shots from the beach at Seaside. The blimp you see in the first photo was advertising for the Wind Creek Casino in Alabama. From what I hear, it is way over to the North West of Pensacola:
I posted a photo a while back of the menu for Pickles restaurant. This is the outdoor dining area for that restaurant:
We saw dolphins swimming out in the gulf a few times on this visit. There were some right in this area when I took this photo, but I don’t see them now:
One thing that folks love to do on the Gulf coast is watch the sunset. We live near the coast at home, and we go to Clearwater Beach from time to time to watch the sunset. I have been to the sunset celebration at Key West a couple of times. Key West has nothing on Clearwater. And Clearwater has nothing on Grayton Beach.
The beach is just a short bike ride from the campground, so we watched the sunset a few times on this trip. Here we are heading down to the beach:
And here are some sunset shots. I have never completely gotten used to the fact that the sun sets parallel to the beach here in the panhandle. At home, it is straight out from the beach:
Now, here we go:

Have you heard about the green flash?
When the sun sets, it goes through the colors of the spectrum- some swear that they see a green flash.
I haven’t seen one.
Yet.
But the hippies on our loop told me that they saw one.
There are no fireworks or Electric Water Pageant on Western Lake at the Grayton Beach State Park.
But, we had a full moon one night of our trip:
Here is a random shot of some of the TCD gang riding their bikes toward the beach area, with the wild dunes to their right:
Should you visit this neck of the woods during the summer time, and if it is real hot, and you are looking for some activity to cool down, let me suggest that you ride out to the Tom Thumb (it’s like a 7-11) about a mile to the East of Seaside. They have all kinds of cold drinks and ice cream, and they also have a Polar Beer Den. For some reason, we like to visit there:
(make sure to take note of the temperature in the Polar Beer den in the photo above)
One day we ate lunch up on the deck at Bud and Alley’s:
I hate to tell you Fort fans, but this bar has Crockett’s Tavern beat hands down.
While we were dining at Bud and Alley’s, they were playing Jimmy Buffett music. At one point, there was an interview played of Jimmy Buffett. On the interview, they said it was coming live from Universal Studios in Orlando. We all joked too bad we were in Seaside, because otherwise, we would have hightailed it over to Orlando. I couldn’t tell if this interview was live or not, though. I heard the announcer mention that this was being broadcast on Sirius radio. Does Sirius have a Jimmy Buffett channel? Well, anyway, we didn’t go see Jimmy Buffett on this vacation. But, when we got home, I found out that Jimmy had been at the Panama City Beach Margaritaville, playing live on March 31st at, when else? 5 o’clock. Dang it, we had talked about driving over there (we have before), but we decided not to. We missed a free Buffett concert. Even TCD messes up sometime.
While we were eating lunch at Bud and Alley’s a black, unmarked helicopter flew by:
Because of the proximity of this place to Eglin Air Force Base, you will typically see all kinds of flying contraptions flying along the coast. Hopefully, they will all be ours, as sometimes you can’t tell.
Looking ahead, it looks like there will be only another post or two, and this report will be done.
