Brother SE-270D Sewing/Embroidery Machine

Thanks! I am pretty sure i'm going to get it. I've read some reviews of other threads being hard to match color even using the tables that are supposed to tell you which one to get. I would rather go with something that is numbered the way Brother does it as I am primarily going to embroider Disney.

Thanks so much!

polystar is what I have and the numbers are perfect

I did get software with my machine which does all the color matching math for me too

enjoy

I have this machine and haven't even made one thing. The threading part fell apart the first time I tried using it. It is now in the shop being fixed for about 40.00 they tell me. Hope this is the only problem I will have. Anyone else out there have problems with it? Thanks:mad:

Do you mean the thread cassetteor the machine itself? Was the machine purchased used? Mine has been used off and on by everyone ranging from an 8 (now 10) year old to a 40 something that has never sewn before and is still plugging along. In fact I jsut hemmed a pair of slacks for my daughter a littlewhile ago since it's in the corner of the breakfast room and I'm too lazy to walk down the hall and use the Babylock :rotfl:

The machine itself. When you push in the thread cassette there is a thing in there that pushes down and it just fell out. I guess its the part that threads the machine.

The machine was new. Bought it on ebay. I learned my lesson once before about the refurbished stuff. So I bought new. Hope this won't happen again.

I just read through this thread and the amazing box II was mentioned. Do I need to also buy the ped basic to use this or is it included in the kit. If not then what does the box include that the Ped basic does not?

Can anyone tell me how long it takes to stitch a design? Also an approximate "cost per item". I am looking at getting the machine to embellish things for DDs Bat Mitzvah and don't want to get in over my head (time wise or financially)

TIA

No, you don't need the PED basic, I'm not even sure what that is. This is a card reader/writer that you can use with multiple machines. it has four slots, you just put the card in the one that matches your machine brand. I use it back and forth with my Brother and Babylock (both are .pes but have different hoop size, the Babylock also does 5 X 7). I simply have two different slot names, and click the one I'm needing , if I do 4X4 I use the Brother one, for 5X7 I use another one. You can put up to 6 designs at a time on the card for versatility too. You can also buy additional blank cards as well. I just used it with the Babylock the other night while making a dog bed for our new puppy. Embroidered her name (Sadie) in a scrolly frame, about 5X6 total. Used the Monogram Wizard Plus software to create the design.

Depends on the design complexity and the color changes. My Babylock is faster, my entire design was done in less than 10 minutes. The Brother will give you an approximate time too. I've had some complex designs take 40 minutes on the Brother.

Thanks..another question, what is a Babylock and can I use it with a Disney pattern. I am just looking to stitch a Micey head or basic design that comes with the machine but will need to do over 100. I am not a sewer and am hoping the machine basically does the work. The difference between a 10 minute design and 40 is huge for me though. I also assume while the machine does the stitching, it is not the kind of thing you can walk away or do paperwork while it stitches?

any suggestions ideas theories or tricks to getting a design in the center front of a T shirt?

I measure and mark dead center with a chalk marker or disappearing pen. Then I center the hoop using the plastic ggrid that came with the hoop, lining the center up on the center of the grid. It works great doing this. The machine will automatically center the design for you. I use those pens that have one side disappearing and one side washable. I just wish I could find them right now. Sadie's bed design was done the quick and dirty way, I folded the fabric to find the center. Better than nothing. :)

Help with my Brother 270D!!! Okay, I'm loving the machine so far but I'm having trouble getting certain items into it to embroider them!!! I have a tall tote bag that I just can't get hooped. It's kind of stiff so when I slide the hoop inside the bag I can't attach the hoop to the machine because the rest of the bag is in the way. Hopefully, this makes sense to someone out there! I'm beginning to think I'm crazy and just missing something really simple that would fix my problem!

For stuff like that I rip the seam, hoop it, embroider, then redo the seam.

Anyone have an approximate "cost per item" or an idea on you buy $X worth of thread and have done at least y patterns?

I am trying to figure out if this is workable for gifts or if it will cost me a fortune

Ok I am ready to play with the embroidery feature of this machine now. Wanted to get the sewing part down. Wow that was easy. So, I bought the pacesetter thread made for the brother machines and now I'm ready to go.

Question though, I know the Disney cards are expensive but on ebay they sell CD's of Disney embroidery designs that say they are in PES format. These are about $50 for several hundred designs. I have the PED Basic that came with my machine so will these CD's actually work or is it too good to be true? Has anyone bought embroidery designs from a CD before or just the cards? And this is refering specifically to the Brother machine and the PED Basic.

Does anyone have some tips on how to keep the rest of the garments out of the way when embroidering. I have ruined three things, because i caught some extra material in the embroidery design
Is there some kind of clip or something to keep the extra material away?

I am sure all you fellow embroidery nuts have many ideas..maybe:confused:

thanks

I have bought several cd .pes files from ebay and they work great!! just make sure they are for a 4x4 hoop or they won't work. they usually send you the files in an email. hope this helps.
