Europe cruises/travel summer 2020 -Anyone else thinking of cancelling??

Looks like all of Italy has now been quarantined.

If this goes past May, expect most Med cruises to be cancelled, and Magic to either stay in North America or only do Northern Europe.

I think the TA is in May. I think they are going to have to make a decision very shortly. I bet they are thinking about worst-case scenarios (that's what people do in Risk Management). In this case, what do you do if you are 3 days out and someone gets ill and needs assistance. You'd be quite a bit away from ANY land in order to disembark a passenger...

It leaves May 11, we are booked on it. The speculation is they will either continue as planned to Barcelona, re route to disembark in Dover, get cancelled, or turn into a Caribbean cruise. I think it’s too soon to know as it’s a rapidly changing situation.

We are PIF on the 7/1 Greek Isles cruise, which I, at this point, am planning on it not going. It will be interesting to see what they offer if they change or cancel the itinerary as that is a "one-off" cruise that is/was a high dollar cruise even by DCL standards.

I know that we can move to one 15 month out, and we could move to the 11-night in 2021, but those dates have conflicts that we didn't have this year.

On an aside, I am still a little peeved that they changed the PIF policy for the Med cruises right after ours just a couple of days after our PIF date....

I’ve been keeping an eye out on American Airlines travel advisory site and it’s not been updated since March 2nd. It will be interesting to see what they and other airlines do now with the new restrictions on Italy.

Delta revised today. Travel to Italy through 5/31/20 gets a one year from booking credit with no change fee.

My PIF date was in a few days and had to make a decision. Just spoke with NCL agent and decided on the refund For the July 26 10 night Med cruise. Interesting she stated that NCL may be announcing in a few days all April and May cruises are cancelling. She seemed to believe that the Caribbean cruises may start back before Europe does but even those, it’s just unknown.

So, we waited as long as we could and opted for the refund vs cruise credit w/25% add. I had booked a British isle cruise about a month or so ago JUST in case this happened for June of next year. Will THAT cruise even happen? I dunno, but at least I have a placeholder and will keep adjusting as I’m comfortable.

Stay healthy everyone. The only “added” stress I now I have to deal with outside of EVERYthing else, is dealing with the airlines. Spoke with them last night but I won’t go there.

We're PIF for the 5/10 EBTA and have our flights also. I recently canceled our scheduled excursions and hotel reservations in Miami and Barcelona. We're hoping DCL cancels our cruise and our flights are canceled also. My position is that DCL will unlikely send the Magic to Europe this year.

This is my prediction as well.

We’re booked on the 12-night Med-Greek Islands cruise out of Rome. At this point, we have no plans to cruise anytime in 2020. I’ve already canceled our hotels in Rome and Barcelona. Now we’re waiting on DCL to cancel the cruise prior to early May when we hit the point where our refund would go down to 50% (56 days out). Until then, we could cancel and take a refund of amount paid less the deposit per guest. That’s 10% for us since we booked using a placeholder. That’s still a substantial amount since this is a pretty expensive cruise. Also sitting on our flights to Rome/from Barcelona, since the airline is unlikely to do anything until much closer to our departure from home in late June. They are permitting cancellations through the end of May with vouchers for rebooking within 12 months of booking date, but that’s not particularly useful given when we booked our flights. We’d have to fly by late July.

I also wonder if they would cancel TA and reposition to Europe without passengers?
They could... that is what the Oasis did last year after their dock incident. But they only missed about a month of sailings and were booked through September with Med sailings... I think Disney will do the math. I mean that have ship upkeep too. They loose money anyways.. even if they keep the boat here, then it just sits as I cant see any new sailings here not possible ( demand, ports space, etc.. they have the Dream and Fantasy to fill). so they have those costs of just sitting.. If they see people are not cancelling for mid-late summer european sailings. they might be better off, doing an empty TA and getting what they can with revenue. I am sure an empty boat sittings has just as much costs as a boat in use .. ( sure you save on food ) but crew you just cant get rid of that fast either...

I can't see them sailing to the Med. Do you really think Spain will be able to handle cruise ships in May/June? Rome?

I am also waiting for them to formally cancelled so I can claim back the 900 I paid in flight penalties I lost. I cancelled my Greek cruise on the PIF date. So sad for everyone in limbo.

I agree and here in Britain we were told yesterday by the deputy chief medical officer that social distancing measures could last up to 6 months ( 3 weekly reviews), so that would possibly rule out cruises leaving from Dover later on in the summer. London, in particular, is a hotspot. If we’re still social distancing, even if it’s not our current, very strict measures, then there’s no way tourists will be allowed in the country. We are meant to be cruising to Bermuda with Disney in October. Keeping my fingers crossed but in all honesty, I don’t see that happening either.

No but their late summer sailings Norway, Baltic’s, Iceland might be doable. I think they only have really true options Dr. ship and keep it out of service or sale those. But making up new itineraries imIS doesn’t make sense. It’s too short term, new customers aren’t coming and they have the fantasy and dream to fill
